What I did was get a 2nd account with 3 characters on it and dual box using their anima instead of my own. Works out great because when one characters anima gets low I just use another. Not sure what I'll do when they start charging for the game, it sure would suck to lose that 2nd account and there's no way I'm going to pay for 2 subscriptions.

The only detection/safeguard SE seems to have is a GM messaging you to see if you're at your keyboard. Just be smart about it. Don't craft for absurd amounts of time.
Do they really message you if you craft for too long? I was thinking about using a similar method to do some grinding as the slog seems ridiculous, and staring at my screen for 4 hours while I spam enter is not how I want to spend my gameplay time.

Your solution, or one very similar, seems like a very good one for myself.

Well, with something like a turbo gamepad it's impossible to detect unless the GM suspects you're not at your computer. They literally made it so easy to "bot" crafting with the most recent change that someone with no scripting knowledge can go buy a turbo gamepad and there is absolutely nothing they can do to prevent/detect it besides have GM's check to see if the user is at the keyboard. It is bannable if you're not at your computer and a GM may decide to check on you if you're sitting there crafting for 20 hour stretches, so there is a risk.

Sure they can detect it, they just look for the timing of the button presses being too exact to be a real person. At least for simple turbo button gamepads. They could simply alter the crafting interface again.

I also feel that crafting in XIV is one of the dullest things I have seen.

Eorzea's children are trees in a grove - bending to the wind like the willow, or bearing it like the oak. Yet live how we might, the wind shall blow.

That's pretty unlikely, and is certainly not indicative of automation unless it's observed over long periods of time. Either way, the only way SE can detect this is to look at individual users over long periods of time. There's no injection or background programs running that a rootkit i.e. Warden, Hackshield, Gameguard etc. could detect. A GM has to be suspicious and then investigate. SE could have some search algorithm running on their servers that specifically looks for obvious patterns of keystrokes, but that certainly does not seem to be the case.

They're going to have to alter the crafting interface to stop this, or hell, I have an idea, just scrap crafting entirely and start over!

    Ding ding ding!

The only way to prevent botting/etc is to not design gameplay elements that encourage it. Why not just let players autocraft anyway? Its not like afk crafting started with the turbo controller fad of late, it began when the game launched because the crafting system is a tedious pile of ass.

They're going to have to Blarp the Blarping interface to Blarp this, or Blarp, I have a Blarp, just Blarp Blarping entirely and Blarp Blarp!
    I couldn't agree Blarp!

just because people can bot it, doesnt mean you should accomidate and combat it by making an autocrafting system

    bad ideas are just bad
