    Do you want to lose an arm? Because that's how you lose an arm. Unlike in WoW, where spaulders and pauldrons are used for style, in FFXIV, tanks and dragoons (along with some other pieces on other Jobs) have these pieces of armor for the same reason we have them on real suits of armor, to protect the joint from attacks from the side, above, head-on, or behind.

    So... no, I'm against this, sorry. If you want to look like a novice who is about to lose their arm, there are already plenty of options. Leave the realistic armor where it is.

    Pauldrons kind of floated above the shoulder in real life too. Often there would be a surprising amount of room inside of one to accommodate for layers and movement. They usually rested on top of the shoulder and would be attached using small straps. Those straps probably don't look that great with the resolution the game works with, so SE likely removed them for aesthetics.
