Thank goodness for jump potions. I came back to the game in anticipation for the new expansion and almost quit again because of the tediousness of the MSQ. Sorry to break it to some of the close minded MSQ police who can't possible fathom the idea that some people enjoy this game for other reasons than the MSQ but there are in fact such people. If I wanted to play a game for story I would be playing a single player rpg.

Jump potions affect you haters in minimal ways so stop whining.

Very little filler "trash" in 2.x as well. There's helping Tataru with her little side venture into different professions and...

Nope, that's it. Everything else is relevant to later plot developments.

Face it, reworking the MSQ outside of closing xp gaps and adding more "move to next place at the end of the quest/cutscene" the way they do several times in 3.5 simply isn't feasible.

There are other solutions to helping new players get caught up (particularly as a choice and not a change forced on all new players), but trimming the MSQ simply isn't one worth pursuing.

So what if its final fantasy? It is also a MMORPG. Did people play Final Fantasy Tactics for its story too cause it was final fantasy? It is also like saying WoW should force RTS elements because of warcraft's clear RTS history.

And Final Fantasy RPGs have historically been single-player RPGs. So according to the person quoted, games played for the story.

Notice a connection, perhaps? Could it be that the story focus has nothing to do with Final Fantasy but with Single-Player RPGs? After all, non-Final Fantasy single player RPGs typically have one of varying quality as well and you usually need to go through it in a semi-linear or linear fashion.

Probably just a bunch of coincidences. It makes too much sense.

Having the option is nice for those who are not interested in the story and want jump straight into the new expansion. But for those who do want to experience the story, I think the best thing for SE to do is to increase EXP from the MSQ once more so players won't have to do all the side quests (the ones that don't have the meteor icon) anymore to reach all the way up to level 60.

Oh I didn't mean this to be dismissive of your viewpoint, just pointing out that FF as a brand is known for its storytelling, even across genres. Also, I'm currently playing through FFT for the story (in preparation for RtI).

So long as the potions remain completely optional I don't see a problem with them. Honestly I wouldn't mind them at this point for an alt I made on another server so I could play with some new friends in their FC but am currently stuck trudging through the low levels.

Eventually a game will have so much content jump potions will make sense. So long as its players choice to use it, whats the harm? You can't even say people wont know how to play their classes, when most dont know how in the first place after starting at level 1 and playing since the beginning.

So if you're a new player and don't want jump potions, simply dont use one. problem solved.

They keep old content relevant through relics and the like so its unlikely youll never be able to clear old content related to story. Besides, thats also what an FC is for helping you get through all the content!

If it's relevant, it stays. If it's not, it goes. Simple. I don't believe whether you liked it or not is much of an issue. New players won't miss it because it will be as if it was never there. You will still have experienced it. They can't take that away from you.
That is still subjective. Look no further than the person a few posts above. I disagree, everything in 2.x is relevant. You could chop quite a bit; arguably the entirety of 2.1. Evidently, others see it differently. The devs have to factor that in and may feel a large portion of what the community feels "blot" is relevant to their story. Furthermore, it's a wasted endeavour since people disinterested in the story are going to skip it regardless. They just don't care, and nothing you do will change that.

The point of a jump potion is appealing to people who want to play with their friends immediately. Say I invited someone tomorrow. The only actual content I can do with them are old dungeons whenever they reach that point in the MSQ or PotD. They basically have to play by themselves because there just isn't much for me to do with them until they're closer to me level. Admittedly, when Stormblood launches, the last thing I want to be doing is running Stone Vigil or Snowcloak. All of this only becomes worse if the person doesn't care about the story to begin with. Now you're asking them to spend hours upon hours slogging through what they don't find interesting just to reach the relevant fights. Yes, FFXIV has a good player influx, but the older it gets, the greater the decline. Newer games come along with better graphics and mechanics. Therefore, XIV has to adapt and change just like WoW eventually did. Maintaining a linear story is perfectly fine, but the option to skip ahead needs to be there no matter how they implement it.

I love taking my time leveling. I'm sure, that theres ALOT of players out there that are like me, that just wanna experience the game to its fullest, not just raiding. If you implement jump .
people are gona do dungeons , what being new does is make it harder for you to get into the more challenging content in the game like trials and raids. If ones only desire is to just do the story and dungeons then they can take their dear time as long as they want I was one of these players myself. But if someone wants to do all the content in the game , then a jump potion is needed to stay caught up with everyone else to do the latest raids or trails like this community doesnt hover around the same content aside from dungeons very long. So a potion would be an option for those who want to do the more challenging content in the game
