Chicago for sure, though. Would have been the best location overall, IMO. Hell even Michigan would have been acceptable and made sense for Canadian players.

California not only screws over east coast players, but most Canadians as well. Chicago would have been the best happy medium for all North American players.

I'm in Cali and regularly played NIN at 90-100+ daily without really noticing anything. While this situation isn't ideal (it really should have been centralized I think), I honestly believe people on the east coast should be a-ok. It's the people in Europe I feel super bad about.

I also get Seattle to San Jose to Sacramento in the tracert for now, or Philly to 'asbn' Virginia to San Jose to Sacramento. At the moment, the IP is routed to Sacramento. Maybe in 2 hours it'll change. (shrug)

LOL! This is why I was saying wait for the servers to come up and get optimized. Even when the servers come up and you can log in and get an in game ping screen, it doesn't mean the routing will have set in place yet. People expect everything to work faster than it does in reality. That 24 hours might be the best advice in this thread.

Might as well bring up my point of view from the similar thread:

I live in Hawaii. I didn't have much trouble playing FFXIV despite the servers being in Montreal at the time (which is very far from Hawaii BTW).

The game ran smoothly, I can dodge aoes, and I can do my rotations smoothly.

So basically, you are going to quit because your ping is doing the opposite of what mine did? The game is hardly unplayable at 89ms, or ever 114 as mine would frequently jump to. Only over 170 did it really start to get annoying.

It also mostly impacts endgame content because that's where you're trying to optimize. At least, relatively speaking. I disagree with the OP though, 190-200 ping is awful. But it's also not something to quit the game over. Just get WTFast/Battleping.

think the issue ppl have with this knee jerk reactions is the game is designed around a 250 ping or lower, still you have ppl post their game play experience with 190 ish ping in games like wow and BnS, Diablo etc lol.

It's possible to raid effectively in the 150 ms range; people under that should be more than fine. I didn't have to start using a VPN for raiding until my ping hit the 180+ range. (Which it did, regularly, in the 3.0~3.3 era.) If you're not raiding, even 180ms should be perfectly playable.

Its weird, when i did the tracert i got redirected to Amsterdam and its the reason i got 236ms ping (i hope). The ping to montreal before was around 99-105ms ping, a direct ping to a server thats located in california is about 105ms ping (mudfish).

3 is triple the amount of 1. That doesn't mean it's a large number.

89ms is unnoticeable and very far from unplayable.
