I hope they offer free transfer PLUS money EARNED for over 3 years for EU members wanted to move to a European server.because I have played with 189 ping and you can feel the lag.

Edit: I think I may have misassumed when you said "money earned" you were refering to RL money SE made. Reading through the rest of the thread you mention being concerned about you being unable to transfer 3 years worth of gil on your character. If that's the case, then consider the below as not applicable to your initial post and my apologies as well

And in those 3 years playing those players did not enjoy the game at all? In all that time playing SE did not provide all the server's storage space, maintenance and keeping things running relatively smoothly? Did they not develop constant new content for them to enjoy and provide a place for people to come together? Did they not get entertainment or anything out of the game at all except wasted time?

I can see SE offering a server transfer for possible inconvinience caused with increased lag like with the Chaos (EU) datacenter move back then, but money earned over the 3 years? That is just the most ungrateful and entitled attitude 'they' could ever possibly display towards SE. I would suggest that they take a good hard look in the mirror. If a 189 ping, on which this game is perfectly playable because it was made to do so, is such a deal-breaker, then I'm not sure why they'd invest 3 years worth of sub into this game to begin with. You certainly don't need a low ping to socialize with friends from the USA.

Seriously, SE has provided enough for our 13'ish dollar/euro's a month. I dare say even more than most other MMO's out there. Shift one's view towards the mountain of things they DID get not at the ONE THING they didn't, because we'll never be happy if we focus only on the things we don't have. Besides, they already gave the opportunity for Europeans to transfer freely to the newly located Chaos datacenter for some weeks after it's move. If they didn't use it then, that's too bad, but move on with life. Demanding earned money back in capitals just screams unfairness towards SE to me in light of everything they did provide them with over these 3 years.

Let's hypothetically say that you live on the east coast and the server is being moved to the west coast - how badly will this affect you?

One of our main tanks and main healers are located in Kelowna, BC. Data Center was located in Montreal before the relocation (West coast >>> East Coast) and as of this weekend a Tracert to Primal (199.91.189.93) resulted in a 125 ms ping.
From Arkansas to Primal DC was a 93 ms.

YoshiP has stated the game is "designed" around a ping of less than 250 ms.

People will always have or find reasons to complain, but our FC locations range from the western side of Canada to USAF bases in Germany and Japan. We've had no issues running all available content over the years on Diabolos.

Unless you live off the main land of North America, you won't notice. The change in routing is almost guaranteed to have less packet loss in exchange for a minor ping increase, they will in 95% of cases, cancel each other out.

I honestly doubt that you can bring your A-Game in terms of raiding if your ping sits around 200+. I'd say even 150+ will have an effect on your performance. So yeah, while you might be able to do most of the things this game has to offer on a higher ping, I do think raiders will be affected by it.

Jumping from 40ms to 80 ms, I think EC will be fine, if it's worse then that, your isp is more to blame then location.

I pinged 66 to the old aether ip just now. If it goes up by 50 like people say it will, it will be 116 ping. Thats less than what the game was designed for so im a bit relieved and i live in the Carolinas.

They offered EU users free transfers when they moved the EU data center, it would be stupid not to offer the same for NA users.

They offered free transfer to those who wanted to stay in the old location.
But now the old location is not anymore.
