They should simply rename it Expert/Mastet. The requirements and reward remain and so does NN but the labeling goes away so as to not mislead people into thinking someone's actually there to help.
Personally, I get attacked every time I bring it up but I still say we need to just remove the reward for being a mentor. A long grind to get a mount just breeds toxic people to want to farm it and even in cases kick the very people they are putting the crown on to help. Least then I would be more willing to wear it to, otherwise I just offer advice or help when people ask now.
yeh ,some people use df with the wrong expectations.
if they dont get what they want , yeh then thats what happens ^^
I don't think there's a point in having the system in the first place if the people participating in it aren't there to help >_>
I'm with AlphaFox up there. There shouldn't be incentive like a unique mount to be a mentor because true mentors need no incentive to be helpful. Personally I've run into only a handful of bad mentors since it's inception. The majority are silent, which is better to me than being an ass. The only mentor I ever reported was in PotD. The dude was unhappy because me and another sprout kept dying on floors 91-100. We apologized profusely but it's palace. Shit goes wrong there. Well on floor 99 the mentor decided to use up every pomander in our inventory and say "my parting gift for morons". He left us to wipe. I've never been angrier at another player before or since this happened. I really don't care what peoples motivation for mentoring is. If you wear the crown, I hold you to a higher standard than the rest of player base. And if you're not willing to help, at least keep your mouth shut. A silent mentor is better than a dick head.
Precisely.
The requirements to be a mentor does not appeal to someone's nature to help but rather his/her achievements, never mind the reward. That's why I feel it would be more apt to call it the "master/expert" status.
If SE was the one handing out the mentor status directly through a process of applications, introducing selected mentors and what they're best at to mentor to the community and making special recognition the only reward, that would be the point, in my opinion, of a real mentor system.
It's good you reported them. I've had to report a few other players for similar harassment.
Tips for reporting harassment:
Take screen shots of the chat log and have your time display set to "Local Time" and/or "Server Time" Referring to the screen shots will make filing your report very easy
In your report include:
Exactly where you were in game when the harassment happened; i.e which specific dungeon, raid, trial, etc...
The time it occurred. Server Time, or if using Local Time include your time zone
Names of the harassing players and what they said and/or did
File your report as soon as possible
Including all of this info will (according to the GMs I've chatted with) make their jobs a lot easier

Why do people insist on saying this. Turn off your mentor status and turn it back on. When you do it explicitly stats you SHOULD be doing that.
As a mentor, you are expected to actively perform the following:
1. Provide gameplay advice for new adventurers and other players.
2. Be an exemplar for player etiquette.
3. Invite new adventurers to the Novice Network, and answer their queries in the chat channel.
*Inappropriate mentor behavior may be reported.
So...where's the confusion? Help people and don't be an ass. If you can't do that then don't be a mentor.
You got a point but I think ShinMetsu is talking in more of a literal sense. There is no unlocking mentor that says "You have to prove your helpfulness by having an application reviewed by a GM team (or whatever) before you get mentor status. Why do people insist on saying this.
