Forums= 5% of the current playerbase ( roughly)
Forums= 3% of them say discount price
Forums= 2% of them say Full price
Game= 95% left unheard

Once you have the other 95% answers then you have a backbone to support your ground

I think the willingness for fans of the game to pay to play a beta test is much more high at a reduced price of $5 a month.

I think the elasticity of demand for this product is such that they'd get more than 5k subs with a price of $6.99. I'm basing this on no hard evidence whatsoever, just my gut instinct.

B) You don't know who's all staying and who's all going so you can't make that assumption. ( what demand? I only see the 3% of the forums *in which they are the ones demanding for a discount* only complaining about it) You don't have enough facts to prove " A Elasticity of demand" is even called for. Gut instinct= Personal Opinion not actual Fact. SE makes that dice roll. So I suggest you leave it as such or else this back and for nonsense will just keep on Occurring.

If the game is worth charging for, it's worth charging the right price (and I don't think full price is it) which generates the most revenue and keeps the most players. The more players you have playing now improves the number of players around for 2.0, if not just for the continuity of those players across versions, but also for maintaining larger fanbase to spread the good word.

Neither side can claim which price would generate the most revenue. Half price would require double subscribers and full price is going to cause the game to lose some people....so really, who knows?

If the barrier to discussion was knowing what 100% of the player base wants for 100% certainty, we wouldn't be able to talk about anything.

Nowhere did I state anything that "proved" the elasticity of demand for this game. I merely gave my analysis based on what I know about economics, sales, and the history of this game.

Really ? i'm pretty sure the vast majority of people around here, have been throwing the "This is a beta, or is essentially a beta" every time somebody said something negative about the game for the past year+, now suddendly it is not a beta.....

People need to take a position and stick to it :/

Yet people care enough about this issue to keep posting in it. This is a forum. Forums facilitate discussion of pertinent issues. This is a pertinent issue that some people feel strongly about and could possibly have an impact on the future success of 2.0.

I've laid out the reasons for my opinion clearly, and in an organized manner in the OP. If you think the underlying reasons for my analysis is wrong, then that's fine. However, don't go claiming I didn't provide any good reasons for coming to the conclusion that I came to.
