EDIT: TL;DR Version / Main-Idea for those who pick on semantics instead of core ideas.
Will the content of Eorzea 1.0 be following the trend of being easier for the middle/upper-middle classes to achieve as time goes on BEFORE 2.0 erases the ability to do so, or will the content added to challenge the calls of the "hardcore" (God, I hate those terms), which I have no grudge against by that merit itself, maintain that difficulty or even, like the Darkhold, have difficulty scaled upwards with content?
So, I've been stewing a bit since last night's thread posting of Petyr visiting Rabanastre (incidentally now locked due to douchebaggery) and I keep coming back to a thought I once planned to avoid bringing up.
We've been told that when 2.0 hits, that many items and achievements
will disappear from the game entirely. Will the content currently renowned
for being difficult be any easier to accomplish for the rest of
the community before Eorzea goes up in flames?
At first, I was just going to let this go. I had fun conquering the Darkhold, but then 1.19 hit and I logged in, took a good hard look at my now ENTIRELY worthless hard-earned wardrobe of not-materia and decided - "Ehhhh, f**k it."
I know Yoshida-san said that he wanted to respect both the "custom gear for the best stats" and "stay balanced and average with Rare-ex" playstyles - but
that's not how the Final Fantasy Online community works. Sure, you have options - but if you don't pick the best option, it's "GTFO, gimpy."
- So, no. I don't really feel like "making like the elites" and buying an entirely new wardrobe just to get an invite to Ifrit.
- So, no. I don't really feel like grinding (read: having my linkshell PL me) to 36 GLA just to not get kicked from said Ifrit party for not having the most optimal Get Out of Hellfire Free Card.
- So, no. I don't share the "WAAAAHHHH, GIVE US HARDER CONTENT." sentiment.
But after reading all the douchebaggery last night, I can't help but ask myself, "Why are we letting these people dictate the terms of content?" What about ... everyone else? We ever gonna get a crack at this?
I understand if the answer is no. I'll take the loss. I won't even step into an Ifrit battlefield if that's the cost - but I consider that a disappointing development choice. Not everyone's here to drag their eight 50 battle classes in and work out the perfect storm.
My beef here is that if Materia is the gateway to greatness (and remember, if it's not optimum, it's GTFO) why is the content for Rare/Ex gear scaled SO HARD towards the elitists that created that atmosphere in the first place? So those who are actually okay using not-optimum-but-still-pretty-good gear can stand around watching them AFK with it purely for e-peen?
I just dun' get you people.
