I hope you will reconsider going back to Dun Scaith. The raid is a good place to hone your skills, since there are quite a few mechanics which will most likely kill quite a few people who aren't paying attention. From a healers perspective, it's rewarding if you manage to keep the party alive during the more hectic battles. I've run Dun Scaith so many times, that i'm starting to predict who will be getting hit by an AoE skill with a fast cast time.OMG, I just... can't believe this just happened.
Just came out of a Dun Scaith run as a SCH. I was a little unease to go in at first because we all know how that place is for healers, a nightmare. Still, I decided to join since it would give some light for my relic.
First boss went out fine. Almost no deaths except for one single DPS who fell out of the ship. Since not many heals were required, I managed to DPS a lot on that boss.
Second one, a couple of screw-ups here and there, but nothing too big. People only died to failed mechanics but everything went out smoothly. And then.... it happend. A DRG typed on the chat: "Hey SCH, you wanna try helping to heal?"
I was honestly shocked by that. Nobody was dying cause of lack of heals. To be honest I felt really offended by that. Since I completely ignored him at first and continued to heal and dps, he followed a couple mins later with: "K then, I'll get the COMPETENT healer to do it XD" which I replied with "and a competent dps does more dps than me". And I said that cause the funniest part of the story is that I was actually outdps'ing that dragoon.
After that, we got to Scathach and... that was a mess. Everyone died after her ultimate cause I believe.... failed dps check? My own alliance had everyone survive cause I crited a deplyed adlo (which was pretty cool). But even then, one of the other 2 alliances wiped and I had to res their healers... twice! And my own co-healer as well. I even used LB3 as the last person standing on our alliance and ressed everyone. But even that was not enough to salvage the run.
And after the wipe, that same DRG wrote a final snarky comment: "You should've healed". And I was dismissed.
I so out of words right now......
I did my best to push dps AND keep everyone alive on that run. And a Damage Dealer who was doing less than me actually did that. I'm so shocked. I'm not even gonna try to report them nor anything since I know better that nothing is gonna come out of it....
Omg... I feel so... violated. Indignation? I think that would be a better word.
I'm never gonna heal in that place again.
I can tell you that a lot of people still aren't paying enough attention to their surroundings and get hit by avoidable damage in the process. Too many people try to ignore mechanics, in favor of burning down the boss, hoping that they can kill it before they get in trouble. Due to this, almost every party i'm in will be wiped at least once at Scathach, because people are ignoring the hands and Connla when the boss gets down to 10% of it's health.
It's easy to blame someone for their mistakes, rather then looking at your own mistakes and owning up to them. That Dragoon apparently was one of those people. Unfortunately there not much you can do about that, other then doing the best you can. Even through i know each encounter inside out, i'm still human so i too make mistakes. I had a melee dps in one of my runs who died to almost every AoE in each battle, just because it wasn't dodging them as he was supposed to. But, as a healer i kept trying my best to keep him alive and well. In the end, i had to raise him more then 20 times during the entire raid. The different is, i didn't call him out on his mistakes but i did try to slip in some tips like positioning. (Unfortunately it didn't work).
The best thing you can do, is brush it off and try again the next day. Who knows, your next run might click and you'll be done in no time and without experiencing this amount of stress while doing it.
Since you are playing on Gilgamesh, that means that you are playing on the Aether Datacenter. I'm from Sargatanas myself, which is located within the same Datacenter. If you want, i can join you for a run and be your co-healer. If you have any questions about healing in Dun Scaith, feel free to ask. (^_^ )
It takes courage to admit that you've made a mistake. In this case it resulted in kicking a healer unjustly. Theses things happen and the only thing you can do is offer your apologies and hope it doesn't happen again. So, kudo's to you Synthcalibur. (^_^ )-bi..was that dark knight in your alliance oh my god i feel so bad im so sorry. i hit yes on the dismissal vote because when i looked at your status mid fight id see you 90% in cleric stance and i just had leveling horror memories as a newbie tank of being placed with synced down scholars who never leave CS and have me die in dungeons and because i saw my hp at 10% sometimes after tankbusters. i finally set up a forum account just to apologize
i apologize and i hope i didnt cause too much of hard feelings :+( i honestly have no clue how to gauge healer, or really any non-tank performance being relatively new like...2 and a half months and only maining tank. without parsers its hard to tell even when constantly glancing at aggro bars because of aggro reducing abilities or things like overhealing..
anyway good luck in your future endeavors!
Please, don't let the "horror stories" get the better of you. Altough these are stories about players having a bad experience in content like Dun Scaith, it's not always like that. There are plenty of other players who are good and work together to make the duty run smoothly. Heck, i was in an Ex Roulette now where we were all cracking jokes throughout the entire duty. It was a blast and we still cleared the run within a decent time frame. It's these kinds of random and spontanious moments that make running content with other people so interesting.Healers and tanks don't just have one experience, though, that's the thing.
I am nowhere near Dun Scaith yet, and I have plenty of tanking horror stories from that one DPS who just had to berate and heckle me mercilessly. I haven't been kicked yet, but I am sure once I hit the 24 man game, I will...just becase I tank and eventually, a member of the Hate Squad will decide I am their next victim. Not a matter of if, but when. As content gets harder, people get less patient, less helpful and less polite. I am imagine by the time DS rolls around, half the raid is people who are one missed keystroke away from going postal.
I not only understand the healer in this story never wanting to heal Dun Scaith again, I applaud it. If every tank and healer who got treated like garbage and vote kicked for pure nonsense simply quit, then two wonderful things would happen - (1) the player who quits putting up with that stuff severs a source of major AND THANKLESS annoyance out of their lives, and (2) those knucklehead idiots who are so freaking toxic can either do the job themselves or wait in longer queues for a decreasing pool of willing victims. Win-win, imho.
I know this one story has me questioning whether to ever even attempt raid tanking in FF14, because it seems like nothing but sheer misery for way too little reward.
But, you as a player can initiate or at least take your part in making a run pleasant and interesting. Crack a joke here and there. It really works to lighten up the mood.
I agree that playing a tank or a healer can feel like a thankless role to fulfill, especially if you are giving it your all and you party members start complaining about that 1 time you've lost aggro on 1 mob, or that someone died as you are trying to heal him/her. However, don't get discouraged. There are plenty of other groups where you will feel comfortable tanking or healing.
There have been more then enough moments where i was questioning whether or not i should continue to play as a tank or run a certain duty, but i perservered. If i compare my skills and knowledge with other tanks and healers, i can feel good about myself that i'm not as bad as other might try to make me feel. I may not be perfect, but i have accumilated enough experience on both my Tank and my Healer to be confident enough in my tanking/healing abilities in front of a group of people i've never seen before.
That on it's own is a good enough reward for me.

Sohm Al HM as a SMN, with a BLM, a DRK and an AST.
Pulls start off well, until the second set of mobs and the tank starts doing teeny tiny pulls. AST is doing no DPS whatsoever. They continue to do this throughout the dungeon, bearing in mind the DPS and they seem to be well-geared enough. After the second boss, I ask why he's doing such small pulls. He answers he "hates this place", and I'm abruptly kicked.
Uh... did I miss something?
Today I had a positive experience in The Vault. I was on Summoner and the party had reached the last boss. The first half of the fight went fine, but it was during the second half when the Dragoon went down. A quick glance showed that I had more MP available than the healer so I did a Swiftcast Resurrection. The fight continued, but things took a turn for the worse. Both the healer and the Dragoon went down with the tank hanging on by a thread. However, the boss was low. Low enough that a melee Limit Break would finish the job, but I still had about ten seconds left to go on Swiftcast. I decided to just go for it and used my own LB which brought the boss down to 1%. I was the last one standing at that point and the boss proceeded to kill me. I died, the fight ended, but... we won. In that fraction of a second the boss also went down and we were deemed victorious.
"I hate this place, so I'm going to make it last longer so I can hate it more and then I'm going to kick the SMN who does great AoE damage so that the dungeon lasts even longer because I just really hate this place!"Sohm Al HM as a SMN, with a BLM, a DRK and an AST.

-Tank, definitely. The kick is odd, though.
Do you always go with randoms?Sohm Al HM as a SMN, with a BLM, a DRK and an AST.

If you're tired of this, we could set up a PF for roulettes.
Because I'm tired of behavior like this (even though I was never kicked for asking questions LOL).
Lord help us all. I have two birds left, Sophia and then I have to actually clear Zurvan...but it may not be till Stormblood now.I've already seen this mindset trickling into some of the Thordan Ex groups I joined back when I was farming for his bird. Marked healers thinking they don't have to move behind everyone to be shielded from Zephirin. People thinking towers can be ignored (see this in SephEx often too). That's why I was so hell-bent in getting my birds now before it just got worse in Stormblood.
BisEx can be like this too when the two Sanuwa show up. :v We don't need to pay attention to which debuff we have. Nope. Not at all.
Yeah good luck on that,
I think Zuvran is easier than Sophia, I dread ever having to do Sophia Ex again. Luckily I'm not really interested in Birds. So doesn't affect me that much.
I only ran them for kicks the first time to see what they were about a few weeks back.
EDIT: I'm more of an Airship type guy, so go do the flying Magitech Armor or the Cutter.

Pretty much. With the lull before SB, most people I know are taking a break, except for the sprouts. My luck with DF is almost legendarily bad though, as you can tell from this thread lately lol.
That sounds like a good idea tbh!
Maybe I'm too stupid, but is it just me or does this forum not allow PMs?
One of us should set up a PF to exchange Discord / Steam / whatever contact data.
Anyway, Expert Roulette, Sohm Al HM.
Premade (Tank, Healer and me as SMN) and a random BLM.
They were able to pull their own weight, which made me happy.
I thanked them for doing DPS.
They responded with:
"I know that feeling."
Commendations were exchanged after that run.
