I ended up selling it, but I could have just as easily shouted for a crafter and got it put on my shield from the AH i spent 90k on.

Meanwhile people are leveling entire new classes for new abilities just so they can take part in the Ifrit fight. Once they do that, they spend millions of gil on new gear and melding expensive materia, just to wipe on Ifrit because it's difficult. But with dedication they might finally kill it, just to be rewarded with.... a downgrade! But not only is it a downgrade, but it might not even be a weapon they can use! But that's a different debate.

The system is definitely off. They need to make NM/PvE gear meldable, there is nothing hard or difficult about the materia system and being rich doesn't make a flick of a difference. I could buy a 15k ring, equip it on a lowbie class and quadruple my money in an hour or two. And no that's not luck based, even the lowest quality materia (mind 2) will net profit on that.
thats nice, but its also pretty easy to pay doctormog ls to get you a darkhold drop while you go to sleep. Also 70 hp is nice, but it is just one materia and fact is you were pretty lucky. Understand this, not every raid or NM is worth being better than a 3 teir materia. Darkhold drops are usually better than a 1 materia item.

Im not saying raids should drop nothing of value, but they shouldnt drop items that take way more time of way more different types of players. Fact is in a system where raid gear is better than crafted gear, crafted gear is pretty useless, whereas raid gear is good until you can pull a peice that would take way more time or money to obtain in general.
