I know we still have more sets to look forward to but I think making current dungeons obsolete is contra productive.
Example is Darkhold which is just a waste of time now.
You can go to strongholds, get good gear in chests, build spiritbond and turn your stuff into possibly great materia. Oh and it's easier than Darkhold.

What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.

I don't understand why the same people who kept crying that the darkhold was too easy *cough*DrMog*cough* are the same ones crying that the gear from said easy dungeon is gimpy

I agree with your thoughts on Materia... From the outside it looks really easy but getting the materia you want and then trying for multiple materia can get time consuming and frustrating
However.... Don't be a grammar Nazi.... Makes you look like a douche more than it makes the other person seem unintelligent, especially since that particular error is so very common

They should make dungeon gear meldable because as it stands right now the stats on dungeon gear is outdone even by crafted gear without materia. To all the people saying materia takes more work, I wore a level 50 wristlet on my level 20 marauder and within an hour or two got a +70 hp materia. I ended up selling it, but I could have just as easily shouted for a crafter and got it put on my shield from the AH i spent 90k on.

Meanwhile people are leveling entire new classes for new abilities just so they can take part in the Ifrit fight. Once they do that, they spend millions of gil on new gear and melding expensive materia, just to wipe on Ifrit because it's difficult. But with dedication they might finally kill it, just to be rewarded with.... a downgrade! But not only is it a downgrade, but it might not even be a weapon they can use! But that's a different debate.

The system is definitely off. They need to make NM/PvE gear meldable, there is nothing hard or difficult about the materia system and being rich doesn't make a flick of a difference. I could buy a 15k ring, equip it on a lowbie class and quadruple my money in an hour or two. And no that's not luck based, even the lowest quality materia (mind 2) will net profit on that.

thats nice, but its also pretty easy to pay doctormog ls to get you a darkhold drop while you go to sleep. Also 70 hp is nice, but it is just one materia and fact is you were pretty lucky. Understand this, not every raid or NM is worth being better than a 3 teir materia. Darkhold drops are usually better than a 1 materia item.

Im not saying raids should drop nothing of value, but they shouldnt drop items that take way more time of way more different types of players. Fact is in a system where raid gear is better than crafted gear, crafted gear is pretty useless, whereas raid gear is good until you can pull a peice that would take way more time or money to obtain in general.

Materia is something everyone in the game has access to. PvE loot is not something everyone has access to. Materia is a glorified enchanting/gemming system from other MMORPGs, it should be utilized as such. I don't raid, so don't peg me as the whiney type with useless raid gear, but I'm always looking for a reason to raid and right now, well, there isn't one.

Materia should be used to augment all gear, it should be strength on top of the base of everything, just like enchants, just like gems. Crafted gear would still be good, they can easily make HQ craft gear better than raid drops (if you really insist on having a challenging, meaningful, rare crafting/materia system). But when it comes down to it, people always wear crafted gear before they do PvE. If they can't upgrade their gear in PvE, then the entire aspect of having loot drops in PvE is utterly trashed.

And I would be willing to challenge you to find pieces of gear from a PvE raid that's better than crafted gear, because I am fairly confident there aren't any. Piece by piece perhaps, but when it boils down to it, a fully equipped character in all crafted gear/materia is likely stronger overall than a PvE equipped character without materia.
