The game launched in a form that heavily encouraged statics. You could only beat a turn of coil once a week, so you couldn't help out your FC members. So having a static group you did your one run a week with became the status quo. The changes they have made since then are building on that foundation of a static-focused community, and also a lot of people that would've been interested in an endgame that was more open to FC participation have long since given up or left the game.

I raid mainly for fun. I like challenges. I'll do it even if no reward for doing it.

I used to raid briefly in Vanilla WoW, I was a kid so I only got to BWL and was more PvP focused PvPing when AV weekends were ALL weekend and if you didn't get in you didn't get in all weekend. BC - WoTLK became PvP arena oriented/hardcore raiding, and then stopped raiding, PvPd more and played other MMOs for PvP (TERA, Blade and Soul, GW2) I didn't raid again until FFXIV coil, SCoB/SSCoB and clearing FCOB and then into Gordias/Midas.

Fast forward to now ran with friends with the classes that we wanted to clear it on, we didn't run with a meta DPS comp or anything we just played practiced and got better and enjoyed learning new strategies on clearing the current content before Echo. It was fun learning the fights and getting the gear which looked amazing this time around, everyone got their mount and now we're waiting for SB, as for me I mostly just PvP these days as there's nothing else to really do in XIV.

Raiding was fun but now we need SB and we want it now !

I raided as a PUG in ARR a little and really enjoyed the fights and people I met. By the time I was interested in running Alex raids, Gordias was current and all I heard/read was how much of a static breaker it was and no fun to be had running up against Pepsi Man over and over. Honestly, it scared me off. I want to enjoy running content. I stuck to the extreme primals and haven't regretted it.

I stopped raiding for many of the same reasons as everyone else. I loved my static group but having a set time commitment eventually caused me to stop raiding.

Also, I found Coil to be much more interesting than Alexander (in terms of story).

I get plenty of stress at work, I don't need to add to it with time constraints and the like in game.

I try to raid as much as I can, being a solo player. Only reason I do it is for the gear, if I had other options I wouldn't bother since it's just far too much work, because again, I'm a solo player. I would love to join a static and raid properly, but unfortunately I have a very fluid schedule IRL and can't commit to a set schedule that a static would require.

I used to raid in FFXI, lots. Did any piece of new content I could back then..

Oh, how I miss all that free time xD

Now sadly, I just don't have the luxury of a set schedule I used to have, so I pretty much just go at things at a casual pace and try to help out others when I can.

Plus, when it comes to this game, I think Savage may be a bit out of my league anyway, so I stick with Ex Primals to get my kitty fix for challenge xD

It's hard to find people who can put out damage and who I would like to actually be around in a voice or text chat with.
I do hope to try party finders out more in Stormblood though.

I tried to be a raider, but since I get home late nights, it don't work for many people. I get off at 10pm cst, usually getting home around 11pm-ish. However, I generally don't log in until midnight after I made sure everything at home is cool and I shower or so.

That said, midnight is too late for some people (est), and not to mention if I am needed to stay at work a few minutes extra until my relief arrive, that causes me to show up to Raid late.

    *EDIT*
Also, I never cared to gear for BiS. If I'm upgrading my iLv260 piece that has Determination for an iLv270 piece that has Skill Speed, I'm grabbing the iLv270 piece. Because of that, I don't want to be one of "those" players, so I'd just stay away and let the group grab someone who takes it a little more serious than me.

And then, there's the videos. I spent a good about of time watching the guide for A11S, only to join a group that kicked me for not knowing the 2-point at the time. Not even giving me a second time after the first wipe. Because they were looking for a tank that was experienced with his job, I was confused; I wasn't aware that experience with your job was the same thing as being experienced with a fight for the first time.
