That's why I said "still", as in, why is this argument still worth having? Who are we trying to convince whether its good or not good to have at this point?
It's a good thing they're no required for people that just want to experience the game fully. Those that want to take advantage to join their friends in the current content now have the change too, or people that want to avoid the needless grind to get to their favoured Job.
This is actually a better thing than people, it will make people more likely to come and enjoy the current content with their friends and companions. And if they don't want too, then we cans till help them run up to those levels.
I honestly do not see what the big deal is. WoW has done this for years, and that player base is still huge.
People commonly agreed that Cataclysm sucked but in the end it still had more subs than MoP (an expansion that was objectively better than Cata), WoD and probably Legion.
The problem is that paid MMORPGs by design relies on people being long term subscribers, being accessible to new players is a must but not when it removes any potential emotional bond that a person might make with your game. Monthly fees already limits the amount of people willing to try out your game and the ones that does have a certain expectation. If you're gonna break that expectation and still keep the subs, then you'll lose more players than gain - not to mention that new players aren't an infinite source.
Instead of fundamentally breaking FFXIV, we need our own Cataclysm that redesigns the leveling experience so it's fun for new players.
Something like this could happen in a future expansion, especially if after Stormblood it leads to full scale war with the Garleans (unless this ends up happening into the expansion). I don't think Eorzea as a whole is truly capable of standing against the entirety of their military force, least not right now.
Would be a way for them to usher in the 8th Umbral Era as well.
Everyone needs an internet hug every now and then.
I didn't say they were unimportant. But the story is not presented in a particularly cohesive way. Bouncing back and forth between Ishgard and Uldah harms the storytelling of both plots, especially when momentum builds in one only to have it hamstringed in the span of a single fetch quest to send you back chasing other trails. Likewise, the whole nature of the Primals thread is quite scattered. These stories need to be told in solid chunks, not broken up and interspersed amongst one another, to be truly effective and carry any emotional weight. This is not a novel you can page through and back, and the presentation of the story in isolated quests means certain literary devices are inevitably going to feel clumsy or disjointed. There is also an issue of emotional follow-through, where a character goes from being super invested in the resolution of one issue only to do an about-face to approach something else and act as though the previous episode was barely a glimmer in their mind.
As an RPer, I am looking forward to the HW jump potion for an alt.
My only concern: will I have to get said alt to the end of 2.55? He's currently in 2.3 i believe.
They exist for OTHER regions only. Whether or not they are added to the NA servers/worlds, the cost, how they work, and who can use them, is still under review.
I highly suspect, based off of Yoshida's words alone, that this is not a done deal in any sense. If the already-paying customers were majority-opposed, I wouldn't be shocked to see them delay, alter, or cancel the idea.
The sheer reason that this isn't a "coming with Stormblood" deal tells me they're unsure of how the West would react to it. This post and it's over-200-page response is a clear indicator there is no consensus. Now they need to wade through over 2000 posts to decide if whatever new long-term customers they hope to generate will exceed the negative reaction from the chunk of already-paying customers who are opposed. Both sides have clearly exhausted their viewpoints by now, so it's all there.

My opinions (Shortened cause my initial post was 3,375 characters long and wouldnt fit xD)
1. Job potions are fine if its limited to one singular class boost. For catch up purposes. Perhaps instead of buying one, give one for those who upgrade from a trial to the full version. That sounds smarter than cash shop XIV. Please please please do not let people get multiples.
2. Quest pots are fine, but I honestly think an exp rework should be done as to not water down your own story and experience. Its an rpg and its not going to feel like one should these things not be done correctly. I got hooked on this game thru its lore and story, its characters and its world. Not digits. Weve come so far since 1.0 and I really want to see this game thrive and be awesome, not saturated with players who have a lot of money and dont want to level.
