I think that's more of a lore explanation for what red magic is rather than saying them saying, "Hey, RDM will use BLM and WHM abilities!". As we saw from the trailer, RDM's animations don't look very similar to BLM and it maintains it's own style.

Maybe they'll get something akin to clemency which will be relegated to "never used except for clutch situations" as using it regularly would be a DPS loss and, in general, healers can more than handle damage going out. Or they could get a skill similar to mantra allowing them to help their healers out without losing any personal DPS...but I'm not sure what they could do without making it an exact mantra copy.

I'd be just happy with a revival skill, its to much strain for healers to keep the tank alive but worry about someone else who just got KOed by an attack they failed to dodge. Plus revival spells take so much MP the Healer is left with an extremely low amount after anyway.
I personally feel DPS should of had a way to revive as well, not just Summoners too.

    Here's
their preview if you haven't seen it.
I imagine we'll be getting a Clemency of some sort, as well as one or two supporty style abilities. Think Eye for an Eye, or the like. Something to make them feel like they can heal and buff, while still being a DPS. Take NIN or MCH's vuln ups, and instead turn them into buffs they put on other party members, that could work. A bit more hands on than Battle Litany.

I imagine with the Cross Class skill reworks we are getting. MCH will be getting Second Wind, and ALL caster DPS will either gain or lose the ability to res in combat like SMN can. But who knows?

I hope so, as much as people hate it in the early runs i go (since i play as a Class i don't go over anything lvl 35) I find myself using cross skilled Revive a lot. Most healers are to focused on the tank so after the fight ends i try to revive if we're past half way mark. I actually get a lot of thank you comments.

Samurai I think will be fine. Red mage on the other hand, I feel is guaranteed to be doomed by bad design. You want your ranged dps in melee range pretty much never, It defeats one of the main reasons of having a ranged dps by crowding the dedicated melee, which is a no go in a lot of raid encounters. It could have animation lock when it gap closes for its melee attack giving it the loldrg curse. Once it's in melee range, it better have a move to immediately get back into ranged because that's where it will belong, and if it has to run back that's a lot of wasted dps unless it's built like a summoner.

Of course that's all just my initial speculation. I have no idea how it will play and I'm prepared and hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
(Note: I never play dps, I only play tanks and heals, but I do raid lead, so I look at things from that perspective.)

In the showcase video the RDM is shown to attack then quickly jump back like the one Dragoon move before firing magic attack. So i think it will be ok, the range might turn out to be just Dragoon style jumps and all as well as magic attacks.

People have expectations for a certain job.

People hated the change that happened to BRD. This hate got passed to MCH leading to less people trying the job.

If SAM and RDM had complex rotation/opener (Based on most of our community, anything other than 1, 2, 3 is complicated and no clue what an opener is) they will not be popular and dropped.

Well, considering what they've shown of SAM, they are looking to be at least as complex as NIN or MNK. And very people play NIN properly, ditto for MNK. Though many can at least play them to par, considering their sub optimal rotations do at least respectable damage.

    Stand in a particular spot
    keep Grease lighting on
    use Fist of Fire
Use both damage over time moves

That's about it, unlike Nin that has to have a set sequence of hand signs its no comparing really. But we do have to remember Monk was one of the original Jobs before Nin was added and had to abide to to PS3 (at the time.) From when i use to get linked with PS3 people in Duty Finders they said that Nin was a bit more of a stain on the system anyway.
