3.56 MSQ Discussion (SPOILERS)

Lyse's deception and VA are not warming me up to the character. SE's intention on making every utterance a meme (Please regale to me again how you are not holding back and dedicating every hit to Papalymo for the 32nd time)is going to grow tiresome quickly.

The fight itself only makes me convinced that SB is going to be handed to us tastelessly easy. The pillowy mounds of dead Garleans followed by the goofiest looking Roe did not help.

It did comvince me that Omega would make a cute Shoot 'em up game, albeit one I'd probably not buy.

I was really surprised that Yda wasn't Yda. I like her the most and i'm not sure how to feel about the fact that she is dead but then I never knew her and I liked her sister all along or however it goes. Just not sure how to feel, I like the mask and her humour and her lack of intellect vs strength. I hope she doesn't change much, I just don't know how to feel. I've looked around but can't see her as an NPC in the game right now, not near the wall in east shroud or at the scions place, anyone seen her?

I echo this. I believe we all had imagined that she'd be the lady in red, but I definirely did not expect that outcome at all. My mind was a bit broken after that, I didn't know what to think or what to feel. I really loved this ending because of this; I love how they didn't need to go on a killing and betrayal spread all over again, or even add a huge war to make an impacting ending. Not every story needs mass destruction to be good, and repeating the same formula as 2.5 wouldn't have been very surprising either. Lyse's identity was a punch in the face for me, and that's how any good story must end in my opinion.

Well, okay, but I'm not exactly inclined to help people that do that...although I'm sure that's what the game will tell me to do without question because they're my "friends"...

It's also possible that your character simply wants to help Ala Mhigo and Doma, not necessarily Lysse herself.

Speaking of that, I hope Stormblood will give us some character development with her, where she tries to make things right and asks how the WoL is feeling about the whole identity matter, and we're given the chance to choose how our character feels. Lately, we've been given the chance to become closer to other NPCs by having conversations where we could choose the WoL's attitude, so I hope SE keeps taking that route.

It's less a lie, and more a cover. Her entire life became Yda, and as the WoL you only ever knew Lyse. From our perspective, Lyse was always Lyse but her name was Yda. Now her name is different, but she's stills​ the same "yda" that we always knew. If you want to blame anyone, blame Paplymo who was in on it.

As someone who loathes the style of humour used in the Hildibrand quests? I agree. WoW started to bore me when it began focusing on dumb 'jokes' and pop culture references over a coherent, intriguing plot. We're not quite at the same level with FFXIV but it does feel like things are slipping dangerously close to that particular route. Stormblood may surprise us and I hope it does...but a simplistic plot where the Garleans are cackling bad guys and incompetent grunts whilst the Scions, the Warrior of Light and their allies pull off impressive feats just doesn't appeal to me at all.

We already know that they're strong. We've seen it highlighted so many times already - so having enemies that put up a legitimate fight and even beat us back; perhaps permanently, would be very refreshing. As for Yda? The twist was interesting, the lack of consequences isn't. Picking a fight with Garlemald at least in part because 'Yda wants it' is silly. A lot of people are going to end up dead, many of them innocent - and on all sides of the conflict at that.

In all seriousness, this wasn't really meant as a plot twist, but rather as a major leap in Lyses character development, she is free to do what she wants now, she will no longer be the bumbling idiot who does nothing but follow papalymo anymore, she has her own destiny and we shouldn't focus on who is under the cover, but instead her motives for taking off the cover and what that means for her character. I actually liked the symbolism of her mask being her literal cover, and taking it off being her step to a new character, much like the outfit changes of the other Scions.
