Thank you. I'm glad someone said it.

Nobody is 'taking anything' away. They are simply saying that if people don't want to support fewer locks when it's male characters losing out, it's fairness to treat those with female characters the same way when the boot is on the other foot. Which is exactly what SpiritMuse is doing. I assure you that most of us will be partying in the streets of Ishgard if they release the limitations in both directions at once, but this protest thread was made in response to one which openly proposed widening the glamour gap. We would have to be insane to support that, under the circumstances, after people have repeatedly told us to shut up about unlocking glamours and wait for more male-only items instead.

More gender/race locked gear is better for diversity.

So in other words, you guys are being childish because I created a thread wanting to wear Ser Aymeric's armor and someone else had said something you didn't like and you're taking your frustration of someone else out on someone else who had nothing to do with it? I had no idea about this stigma on the forums, but jesus christ the whining over all of this is blowing my mind.

No, it isn't. Not in any way, shape, or form, would that entail diversity. All that entails is that we have less options and less diversity to wear what we want, then all people who wear that racial clothing will be even less unique since more people of that race will wear just that gear cause it's exclusive and thus it'll just be "the Au Ra look", "The Elezen look" and become dull and predictable.

Frame it however you want, what you're asking for is extra restrictions on other people. Isn't Aymeric's gear an existing in-game (and unisex) model? It's clear it's only restricted because of complaints like this. There is no technical or social reason for it other than to address this "fairness" concern.

But again, this is not what fairness is. If you want people to have equal rights, you give people more rights, you don't take them away from the people who have them. This is like when one kid in the class misbehaves and everyone suffers for it. This is good how?

Let's be real. The reason there are more female-exclusive gear pieces is because, in real life (and particularly in Japan), women have a wider variety of clothing options. Women can generally get away with wearing "men's" clothes, as most traditional men's clothes now exist in women's styles, but the reverse is not true. Even in the most progressive places, it's rare to see a dress actually being made for men, for instance. Does that mean that's right, or that the game should reflect that? No, of course not, but let's not pretend this situation exists because of some inherent imbalance of fairness. And let's agree that the solution to the problem is simple: remove all gender locks from gear. Adding more only makes the problem worse.

    Diversity is options not limitations.

No one is 'taking away' anything because you never had it in the first place, and SpiritMuse was wrong in wording it that way, though I agree with his sentiment. Regardless of how you feel about female variants of gear, or if you dislike your female exclusive gear, apples to apples, females have more. It won't hurt to let males have a gear set to themselves. Sure, I'm for removing a few of gender locks as well, but I'm happy the Aymeric set is gender-locked (though as I said in a previous post, I wish the hair could be bought separately since it's unisex).

There honestly isn't all that much gender-locked gear that doesn't have a male counterpart anyway. Though some, imo should count as the same item, eg: no reason the Songbird/Seneschal sets are separate, as well the Far Eastern sets, etc.

Ok, Aymeric's outfit can stay male, it's not to my taste anyway. Can we then get Urianger's and Cid's? Then it will be fair. We get exclusive Minfilia, you get exclusive Aymeric, the rest is pretty even.

I'll bite, why are you happy the Aymeric set is gender-locked? (Maybe to cut to the chase, if there were no female-only gender locked gear pieces, would you be happy that Aymeric's gear was locked to male characters?)

Full disclosure, I bought the Aymeric set despite not being able to use it, just for the hair. (Which is great, as I'm sure my forum avatar will be updated to reveal shortly, lol.) For that matter, I'm a big supporter of Square Enix and I buy basically everything in the Mog Station, even if I don't plan to use it. Which is to say, if they remove some of the remaining gender locks, S-E can have some more of my money.

If we get Urianger and Cid's, then what of Yda's and Y'shtola's? Both, for that matter.
