    DualShocker Interview - 3.5 pt 2 next week, supposedly

    Key Points:

    - Kugane will be as large as Ishgard, seamless, and the buildings will be "surprisingly" climbable

    - Paladin will have an increase in specifically magic defense, as well as physical

    - Storyline should be just as good as Heavensward, and will have more voice acting

    - 3.5 part 2 (which i'm assuming is 3.56?) was said to be 2 weeks away from the time of the interview, which was a week from now, so supposedly the patch is coming next week.

    Surprisingly climbable? Platforming gameplay incoming?

    Paladin gets a DEF buff to compensate for being poor DPS? I can so handle that.

    Roll on with the update and expansion in due course.

    ummm, i hope thats means Dark Knights go to get a chunk of physical defense too to compensate.

    Could it be that WAR will be the physical tank with decent DPS, DRK will be the Magical tank with decent DPS and Paladin will be the defensive tank with crap DPS?

    It kind of makes sense considering the archetypes involved. WAR has enhanced self healing through their attacks, DRK could have enhanced MP regen and self healing through their attacks, and PLD has more passive DEF, and less dynamic self healing, along with the DPS differences, this would separate each of the tanks and give them each a niche to operate in.

    Huh the first thing they are addressing is more defense XD. Hopefully they can do something balanced with them, clearly Warrior is intended to be a strong damage source and Dark Knight to an extent as well.. so does that mean they're going to make Paladin "THE main tank" to compensate for the lack of damage? Or at least support / tank like in WoW? Paladin's current support is a /eh/ level (cover feels boss in PvP though lol), Warrior actually has pretty decent group options (to be clear not suggesting defense is the "only" change Paladin is receiving :P).

    Also I love jumping puzzles, even though I'm aggressively average at them lol. So it'll be cool to see if they've mindfully made paths throughout the city, and no loading screens is appealing .

    What if WAR and DRK each had their own specific way of balancing the increased passive defense of Paladin through debuffs they can impose? That would make PLD the easy button tank, and imply a bit more skill (perhaps) for WAR and DRK with more active management of their DEF (not including CDs).

    DS: With the new Shirogane housing zone, and the feature that will allow free companies to move, aren’t you concerned about the possibility of the old housing areas becoming empty? Is there any plan to prevent that?

    I would extremely caution the idea that certain jobs have much higher results when played better than others at max skill level, you can change how hard it is to get to that master point and their floor skills though. Like easy to grab, hard to master vs moderately difficult to grab and moderately hard to master. Where at the max perfection of each job = the same end result (even if the method of the end may be different, like Paladin being so tanky that healers get to DD a lot more).

    And correct me if I'm interpreting it wrong but it sounds like you're suggesting the difference between defenses is Paladin is easy to handle and the other tanks don't have better defense but are harder/capable of being at Paladin's level- meanwhile all the damage differences remain. The end result of that would still be what we have now where people dislike paladins and just request better tanks, except maybe in PUG DF where they might be happy to see a Paladin lol. Paladins would still be undesirable in raids where people want efficiency over player enjoyment (there are some raids that don't care about meta at all, and just want to play even if it doesn't mean sweeping the floor lol).

    I'd like to see the change where each job offers something that makes you happy to see them, and Paladin is lacking in his side points to make those his glory moments and his defensiveness ability (minus cheesy abuse Hallowed Ground strategies) is not good enough to make that his shinning point (other tanks can offer up similar tanking ability, again minus that moment where you need 10 seconds of no damage). In the changes mentioned in the interview If his defense is his "point" then simply Paladin will become main tank and the other tanks will become "bruisers", even though most warriors I see already play mostly like a bruiser anyway lol.

    Could have misunderstood you though

    (that I thought you were suggesting all tanks can equal Paladin's defense but Paladin is just easy to play, meanwhile damage differences remain)

    I am glad they are using the extra performance they have to increase the number of visible objects over more detailed ones. Most of the object models in FF14 look ok but the world can be a bit sparse from time to time.
