I think the issue with Palace of the Dead is, that the monsters die to fast. A player is able to do a full rotation or use their buffs, when a encounter takes longer then what we currently have in Palace of the Dead. I have been doing Palace of the Dead the past weeks to unlock the i1255 weapons for my other classes and one thing that I have noticed is, that players are trying to fight as less as possible, this could explain why we see alot of players with i255 who have no clue about their classes.

I'm currently leveling summoner and from what I've learned, it's about keeping up your DoTs on as many mobs and as long as possible, making the best use out of Dreadwyrm Trance, managing your Aetherflow wisely etc.

Some people seem to insinuate that it's PotD's fault when people only know how to press 1 2 3 on their job, but that's simply not true. It's their own fault.
How does it give you a general idea if the mobs in palace die so fast that you don't even have to use more than 1,2,3? I mean yes if you are really interested you get a little preview of the higher skills but thats all.

Sure its not the fault of palace that people are playing bad but it supports that to a certain point.

    How can you do that?

Edit: I can do that now. How convenient, this Palace thingy is better than I expected.

Because I am one of the (apparently few) people who actually read tooltips?
Like, I see a group of enemies and use Bane to spread my DoTs to all of them instead of just doing Ruin, Ruin, Ruin, Ruin again and again.
PotD enemies die too fast for a proper rotation but slow enough to learn what skills / combos are the most effective in certain situations.
Applying this knowledge to actual group content is another thing, but I always try to practise.

Am I doing PotD wrong or something? I mean mobs die fast, but they don't die so fast that you can't get a single rotation off. Especially if you're pulling groups.

I highly doubt PoTD could be the cause of bad players being out. Plus, here in Shiva, I've hardly had a bad time with parties apart from one or two exceptions. Most of the content is burned out and the dungeons are completely rusheable or nerfed (I miss those days where Garuda had one-shot mechanics, I found the experience entertaining as a newcomer and as someone who lectured the newcomers on how to do the trial, though later it made my hype on HM die pretty hard). Also, most people in high-end already knows the fights and end up rushing the instance for one or two isolated newcomers, who don't get to catch the mechanics.

And I'd say I've found more cases on people wiping due to failed mechanics (like Ozma meteors) than due to DPS at the bottom of the barrel.

Regarding my experience with PoTD, I leveled all classes from level 15 to 30 via PoTD, going up to floor nº50 and made an additional run to fill up the hotbars with all the abilities. As far I'm concerned, I find that the experience gain slows down at around levels 30-35 since I made a full run 50-100 with BLM and hardly went up 2-3 levels, all within an 1-1.5 hours time span. Recently, I'm considering getting on PotD again, after doing roulettes and beast tribe quests, with the lvl 56 BLM, because the EXP yield in HW FATEs seems a tad poor.

Mobs die really fast, making difficult to get used to maintain buff (BotD of the DRG, Enochian....) but I find that, you can perfectly learn the basic rotations and, though you can't learn really much on how to maintain buffs, when you start killing stuff outside, you have a pattern sort of drawn on your fingers, since you already have assigned a spell/ability to each key and you easily access each skill. In short, i think PoTD serves well to create a foundation and FATE grinding helps building knowledge over rotations upon said foundation, since you get to fight studier mobs on which to practice longer rotations.

Before POTD, we blamed fate grinding as the cause of the lack of player skill. It's not the content, it's the people. The devs don't need to spoon feed the rotations into people. But it would be helpful if there more content where you could practice your rotation.

I also think, in floor 51-60 of POTD, the mobs are too easy to kill. It's annoying when you can barely finish casts as a BLM, far less practice a full rotation with Enochian. But I greatly appreciate that I can set my endgame bars on any new job from the get-go and look at the full skill list to figure out the final rotation. It's easier to figure out by seeing it in-game even if I don't get to put it into practice much till the floor boss.

PoTD isn't bad at all. I love it! It just doesn't prepare folks for raiding.

The answer isn't to kill or change PoTD, but to continue developing other forms of endgame that don't lean so heavily on eight-man raiding.

I actively read tool tips when doing 60 AST in PotD and tried to use each ability. I also looked up AST guides online. I am not as good as I could be and there is much to learn when I get into other content, but I feel comfortable with the job. I think it's worse for tanks and dps. I am getting plenty of panic heal practice when someone pulls 5 mobs while someone else opens and exploding chest.
