You don't have to use a pepper. Just put the rest of the points into healer till its maxed out and you'll get the barding

After your chocobo gets to rank 10 you can use a Thavnairian Onion every level to break the level cap for the chocobo. Max chocobo rank is 20 and you can max all three trees at that rank.

To both of you thank you. I was told originaly that those onions costed 800k gill. However im looking them up now. And whoever told me that was sorely mistaken.
