my g/f: hi, i've played ff14 on a ps3 till last summer. Ps3 didn't bog the game down as much as you guys thing, and only base this off theory and misconceptions. All ps3 people had was shorter draw distance, longer load times. I had no issues as a ps3 player, ya ps4 is better.. but no real difference outside hud, and faster load.

the only reason ff11 ps2 limitations existed because, the game was built from the ground up with ps2 in mind.

it is not the case for ff14.

When they announced the discontinuation of Ps3 at some live event the room erupted in cheers. it is not mean spirited to be happy about a game you like to play being held back so much.

I wonder what all those people will say when Stormblood comes out and the game barely changes (if at all).

I've a PC that is getting old and now barely keeps pace at low settings, and any "upgrade" worth of that name, means just buy a new rig gtx equipped, and give out about 2k $ for it.

A ps4 is just 200$ and run the game fine, SB too. This is the reason I decided to "upgrade" to a console rather than throw 2k $ to a pc just to play a single game. That's the reason I will be able continue to play XIV, when it comes SB, because when it comes, I'm quite sure my PC is not prepared.

On my case, consoles let me continue to play.

You can build a PC perfectly capable of out pacing a PS4 for 500-600$ USD or less. A 2k rig is going the behemoth route.

They strive to offer the same experience no matter the platform. As the game advances with technologies, old systems have to go. It's not just the PS3, it's older graphics cards and operating systems as well. The PC version has higher minimum requirements come the expansion. So yes, the PS3 (and older PC hardware) was holding the game back. Now they'll have more to work with based on the new minimum specifications they give for the game.

And I don't see the problem.

I purchased Everquest in 2001. WoW in 2004. Everquest 2 in 2008. There's no way in hell those games will run on the computers I initially bought them for today. MMORPGs can, will, and have evolved beyond the platforms they are originally designed for. Console players do not get any breaks that PC players do not get either. Those players knew what they were getting themselves into. FFXI is another example of that as well by the same publisher.

I have friends in Peru and Costa Rica who aren't going to be able to play anymore because the PS3 is being dropped and new consoles cost extraordinarily more for them to buy (Peruvian friend told me $800 USD for a PS4 for him) locally. People from poorer countries are going to be hit the hardest by this.

I think last gen went on for way too long, by 2012 or even as early as 2010 consoles were starting to show that they can't keep up with game enhancements
Sonic Generations comes to mind. It's locked at 30fps with some frame drops and looks blurry on consoles but on PC it runs at a smooth 60fps and looks gorgeous.

Just saying the game could be a whole lot more if it went PC only.

You're right but I don't think they could afford to have FFXIV be PC only since the series has mostly had its home on consoles first.
MMO or not you can't have a game be inaccesible to a chunk of the series fanbase.

I hope you didn't buy an Alienware. My built by myself PC has lasted me a good 2-3 years on a budget of $700AUD and I can run nearly everything at a good framerate and resolution, only now is the video card showing its age and I intend to upgrade it and when I do the card is going to last me another 4+ years I bet.

PC gaming is not as expensive as people make it out to be. I'm not even tech savvy and even I know you don't "NEED" absolutely top of the line stuff. You can get by on a budget.

As sad as it is for PS3 players it's just the nature of these types of games, same thing with operating systems. Developers have a vision for their software and sometimes to realize that vision you have to drop support for older hardware. If this game runs long enough, I would not be surprised if they drop the PS4 support and continue on PS5.
