    Im so happy for the Songbird set, the chest piece is beautiful but I think the real show-stealer is the hat. I have a pipe dream of a dyable version of the plaguebringer set and I'll be able to use that coat + Songbird hat to recreate the rose theme RDMs have in the Bravely games. <3<3

    I trust the dev team to make some good looking outfits for RDM as well, but the problem is that if they make diverse sets to appease the addition of RDM, it takes away from BLM's, where they should have some good sets of robes well. I'm not saying that BLM's should only have robes, but I don't think taking robes completely out is the way to handle this.

    Idk, I hope the dev teams can find a proper balance that will all of the caster's aesthetic, without having to rely on glamour. Relying on glamour to make RDM feel like RDM is a cop-out, leaving the creative design work to the community rather than taking that responsibility themselves.

    Don't screw this up, SE.

    If they repeat the pattern of having dyable versions of 2.X dungeon gear appearing as 50-59 non-dungeon gear you'll likely get your wish.

    I hope they find a good balance when designing the shared gear between Summoner, Black Mage and Red Mage. Summoner and Black Mage are the traditional casters, but Red Mage has that fencer element to it, so I realy hope they keep the Wizard robes to a minimum or let us glamour different gearset that share the same gear.

    To be fair I don't think either of BLM's two AF sets have been Robes as is. They're both coats. Its not a robe unless it covered front and back and goes down to your toes. Not unless people want to say I wear a robe in cold weather when I leave my house, rather than a coat. Even Summoner hasn't really had a Robe either.

    Look at the current Shire Gear. Looks more like a Red Mage's outfit than a BLM or a SMN, and RDM isn't even playable yet.

As far as the gear is concerned, putting RDM in robes is going to be the norm if is sharing caster gear. Its an easy fix and takes less time/work to do. Only way around this is of course glamour which i'm sure they figure people are going to do anyway. So I guess we either glam RDM AF until next expansion or make up your own look I guess ^^;
    You only need MND for healing spells, which RDM will not have (except maybe 1 self-heal skill). If the spells do dmg, then INT is your stat.

    I don't think it's surprise so much as very interesting. This decision helps to illustrate the direction that SE intends to take RDM in XIV. Given that RDM is historically almost entirely defined by using a very hybridised fighting style, I am personally looking for any indication to see how SE intends to combine that with XIV's incredibly rigid role boundaries.

    SE casually placing RDM into the same category as BLM for equipment doesn't tell us much, but it implies that a lot of RDM's hybrid character is going to be stripped away. We've already seen that SE doesn't really care about maintaining the image of a historically established job beyond the most superficial aspects (look at "SMN"); this choice is an indication that RDM may be going in the same direction.

    I think that's why people are making a big deal out of this. If SE announced that a dedicated back-line nuking job was going to be on INT gear, it wouldn't be very exciting - very much a "Water is wet" situation. Because it's RDM, with the disparity between its historical nature and XIV's rigidity being somewhat controversial, I personally think it's very much worth talking about.
