100% agree bro... vertical progression sucks. FFXI is boss. This is just a gimmick of it... Came back because I enjoy the story, but no longer waste my time grinding stuff that is obsolete every 3 months.. At least with ffxi their was a sense of accomplishment. I just play the game for the story now.. i quit for 2 years after I realize it will never by XI. And no i'm not going to play XI because that game is ancient, not lvl 75 cap anymore, and its not on console

It lasts 6 months, not 3.

Actually, FFXI has the exact same problem. Level 75 content is dead. Sure, it had a better time managing multiple content at the same time, but it was because the level cap wasn't planned to change, and you just can't simply put higher and higher gear for years while staying on the same level. If you look at the really early days of FFXI, almost every 50- items are useless for lvl 75 content (I said "almost", I know about Leaping Boots, Emperor Hairpin, Peacock charm, etc...). That's why I hope that, one day, they'll just stop increasing the level cap, and starts wdening the choice on gear.

On a sidenote, I rarely felt any "accomplishment" from FFXI. In fact, most content is not really hard to beat, it's just that failing is frequently brutal, and drops rates were abysmally low. FFXI is not hard, it's punishing, and it does not really give you a sense of "accomplishment", just "lack of frustration"

A lot of stuff had caps. you needed good lvl 30 gear and 50 gear to help people get though COP missions. getting access to Sea/Sky was a major accomplishment.

Farming for currency for your Relic and farming the rare items drops with a committed group over a couple of years was a major accomplishment.

Watching someone obtain an item they had worked years to get was also a great feeling. It improved your groups ability to fight HNMS efficiently and it made you part of something.

You needed gear for several different situations and fights. It also added something different to the game because there were MANY different play styles................................

Indeed, getting access to something was good. But, in the whole playtime, it was minimal. And, in fact, not that hard. No content in lvl75 era FF XI could compare in sheer difficulty to Coil (AV and PW aside). Failing that content, however, was brutal...for example, if you lose the Mammet Fight, you have to go back to your home point (Hopefully, Tavnazia), trek all the way throughout Misareaux and Riverne Site to reach Monarch Linn and try again. It's not difficult, but damn is it boring...

I don't think so. Winning your first Dynamis is good, clearing all of them up to Xarcabard or Tavnazia is good. Doing the same things at least 200th times while spending millions of gils (Because, if you don't pay the entry fee yourself, then everybody want to sell the currencies to earn some gils) is just...tedious.

For most items, you don't "work" for years. You work for days to be able to clear the content or kill the monster that drop the item (Leveling time not incuded). And then, you go there again and again until a dice-roll decides to favor you. No skill, no strat, no deep understanding of the game mechanics...just pure RNG.
