no I dont, do I lose anything ? I would love to follow her quests , but would my lvl be affected or just be synced ? if only synced then how to do that ?Do you know about the New Game Plus feature? Basically, it lets you replay all the story quests. You could use it to follow along with what your GF is doing at the same time and get a refresher on the story, rather than just watch her character model stand still in a cutscene.
You know... I've never had a problem doing old content. I know it's kind of a weird concept, (Edit; saying that as an old WoW refugee where this was very much not true.) but I have friends in several companies on my server, and I throw out there "Hey, I'm looking for some people to help me with XYZ" ... and while it's not a given, a lot of the time my friends are interested in helping me experience the stuff they did.
Just putting that out there as an option.
Edited; sorry, I recognize only in hindsight that sounded really condescending. That's not my intent at all. Really, it's a social experience, and far from being a burden, I've always felt very encouraged by my friends to try this fight and that fight, and go pal around for a bit in places like Eureka or Palace of the Dead, if not for the rewards than to just get a feel for what it was, to see if I'd enjoy it.
I'd really hope that among your friends you'd find the same welcome.

Basically out of instanced areas you would be full power. Got a quest that says "slay x"? You can rally the entire zone and one shot it. Now the second you enter an instanced zone/quest/dungeon then it would be like doing a roulette and you are ilvl/level synced.
However you can't regain rewards for quests and the like again. You are just replaying the story again.
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
make sense , but I would rather do the unsynced ver for her as she learns for now .. n

Yes, exactly. It will be included for free just like A Realm Reborn and Heavensward. One thing to keep in mind about the free trial, though -- if you ever actually buy the game and subscribe, your account is no longer a "free trial" account and you can no longer play for free ever again. Well, unless you register a different e-mail and make a whole new account from scratch, that is. But then you really are starting over from square one. From the sound of it though, I assume your account is a paid account and your girlfriend is playing the free version?
Nope, you don't lose anything. It basically just puts the rest of your quests on "pause" and allows you to follow the MSQ as if you're doing it fresh. It's even divided into "chapters" so you can choose where to jump in. You can't do any other quests while using New Game Plus, but that's just a simple matter of putting New Game Plus mode on "pause" and going back to your normal progress point. But it will remember where you were in the "New Game" MSQ and you can return to it when you like.
As far as your level goes, when you are in the open world you are always at your normal level. It only syncs you down when you enter instanced content, like how dungeons do. So, if you're playing alongside your girlfriend in the open world and she has to fight something in the open world, you're still probably going to kill it super fast if you participate. I have a couple friends who are going through ARR now, and I play New Game Plus when they are online, but in the open world sometimes I just stand back and don't damage any enemies.
One thing to be aware of though, is you only get one "save slot" for New Game Plus mode. So, if you wanted to hop over to the Crystal Tower quests, or the Hildibrand quests, you would have to dump your progress in the "New Game" MSQ progression. Again, it's not a total reset because there is a "Chapter" system that lets you continue from various story checkpoints, but they are few and far between. You can't just jump back in at precisely the point you left off, so it could be a hassle to catch up depending on where in the story it is. Edit: Actually, I don't know for an absolute fact that you lost your progress if you hop back and forth between MSQ and side quests, maybe the game remembers them separately. I've just never tried it so be careful.
When my friends first started playing, I actually made a whole new character because I forgot New Game Plus existed. But, have you considered making a new character anyway? That way you really get the "new player" vibe again and you'll have an extra character to do "New Game" sidequests with your girlfriend if/when the time comes. I actually still use a secondary character for fun anyhow, and I wait to do holiday events on that one when my friends can join. If your account doesn't allow more than one character per server, you can make one on a different server and just visit your girlfriend's server any time.

Ouch, seeing this is an issue that's been here for long and devs have done nothing is really disencouraging.

@Fahad, you're making some very good points, especially the bold print where you're listing some solutions to reviving dead content. I love a lot of the old content as well and it's a shame that SE doesn't create new rewards to revitalize the old endgame content. I especially miss the the savage train fight from stormblood that references FFVI. It was such a fun fight!
lol oh hey ur still here posting away six years later
