I doubt I'll be switching my main, but I'll definitely give Samurai a try. Don't have a melee leveled yet, so why not? RDM looks too much like a BRD clone, so the interest sorta died there lol.

Lol, just because of the hat? Because skillwise it looks anything but a clone with the chain-spells, giant explosions and dashing, thrusting and leaping back. xP
Anyway, to stay on topic, I've been hoping very much for a Samurai melee dps and got just that, so I'll definitely start SB as one. I main Dragoon and love melee DPS with giant single-blow, heavy hits (loved Gladiator in Aion too for that reason), but also nimble multi-hit attacks like NIN. The Iaijutsu shown in the gameplay vid seems to be exactly that combined with some combination system like on ninja (though perhaps linked to attacks used rather than seperate skills like mudra's).

Being a fan of casters in general, but not having any love for any of the dps jobs in FFXIV (caster or not), I've mainly stuck with healers. I am hoping that Red Mage will be a dps job I can enjoy. But my guess is I probably won't, because if I do, many people will not.
I find all the dps jobs currently in game just too complex to be fun for me. Whether its combos, positionals, "awesome ability that can only be used while under the effects of a buff from another ability", or just in general too many finger gymnastics required, for one reason or another I don't find any of the dps jobs fun to play. If I wanna enjoy dealing damange, healers are my only option currently. They are the only simple way to dps. Toss up dots, spam your nuke, maybe use a cooldown where applicable. Nothing too complex to deal with.
I'm pretty sure though, if RDM ended up being that simple to play, there'd be a lot of backlash for it. I just wish there was at least one "simple" dps job I could enjoy playing, and I'm not really expecting the combat revamp to do anything dramatic to change things. Still RDM will likely be leveled before SAM (once my WHM is 70).

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

Well long ago... I played an RDM/BLM to 75 (Back when that was the level cap) in FFXI on Bismark Server under the name Phoenixus and was really good (Might have been Silverquick, was so long ago I can barely remember, used to run around with a Dragoon named Kalith).
That version of the class is likely to be extremely different than the iteration in FFXIV, You don't really have refresh and you're not really acting as a support class anymore in this game at least from what I can see in the video.
I personally am looking forward to trying out Red Mage in this game as well. If it is at all as cool looking to play as the video showed... then likely I will enjoy it a great deal.
Red Mage treated me very well in FFXI... I suspect it will do the same in FFXIV even if I have to adjust to it being a more of the Traditional Red Mage in the earlier FF games.
I am seriously looking forward to it.

i have yet to develop any interest in samurai at all at the the moment, but i'm beyond excited for red mage. since SMN is already my back-up job, i don't have to worry about gearing up!
Does anyone know if you need to have a lvl 50 class before you can play Red Mage? or do you just need Stormblood ?
pretty sure you'll need 1 lvl 50 before you can pick it up

I'm not overly excited for either job but of the 2, I'm probably going to level SAM 1st, just because my main DPS job is MNK so I'll have gear for it once leveled

Pretty much. XD And just the general aesthetic. It looks too "nancy-prancy french noble" for my tastes LOL. I know it's superficial to get hung up on, but it's just not something that hyped me up when I saw it. :/ Plus, I've already got a caster, so it seems silly to add another to my repertoire when I could maybe fall in love with a melee class finally.

I'll keep maining WAR with a lot of SCH on the side, partly because I enjoy having more control but mostly because 90% of my friends main DPS jobs.
That said, I'm excited about both of them. RDM has seemed like a really cool job to me for a long time, and I'm curious what the XIV implementation will be like. SAM might be the job that wins the DPS spot for me though. I used to main DRG for a very long time, but it got old in Heavensward. Maybe this'll get my melee senses tingling.
