I think if anything they'd save the melee pets for Beastmaster (which I reeeeeally want to see in 4.0 alongside samurai and all the other stuff)

So basically we can have yet another pet that stands in the stupid and using terrible skills?
Would this replace your chocobo or in addition to it?I think a few of you are not quite getting what I meant. Idea was having this proposed Wyvern companion acting JUST LIKE the chocobos we have now. Summoned with an item to assist you in open-world content for fun. Not changing DRG to a pet class. No no. Lawdie no. Just something fairly minor and inconsequential.
Replace! Like a glamour, basically. And honestly, considering where we are with the story, I'd be okay with it being available to more than just Dragoons. 'Twas just a silly little idea I came up with. Dang, though. People gotta read more.
I could've done so much with my life. Then I played FFXIV. 10/10
I mean I guess I wouldn't complain if they did it. If you do that just for DRG though, then wouldn't you need to do something for other jobs? Seems off they would just do one. They did humor in the past about letting your magitek armor mount be a companion, but we hadn't heard much about that.
Short of coming up with a different companion glamour for each job, I think this would almost need to be available to all of them if it were put in at all. So, once you've completed the HW MSQ you can do a quest to get a wyvern companion. The same rules would apply to it as to our current chocobo companions so there wouldn't be any balance issues, as it wouldn't change what we can do, just what our battle companion looks like.
(Aren't there even references in the menus to "companions" as a plural, as though at some point they were planning to give us more than just the one? At least the Lodestone has a page for a character's "companions" though I don't recall if that's how the game itself refers to it.)
Hoping 4.0 gives DRG pet like XI. SE has said their goal with expanding the jobs was to make them more fun and unique. A wyvern pet would be good way to add to drg gameplay without changing rotation too much. Would be cool if it has different stances like heal support for soloin and offensive for pure dps. And definity multiable skins/colours to customize so every drg doesnt have same one. Ooh and naming it offcourse. I might main drg again if they do it.

So it's like I can have an actual dragon named Salamence instead of putting Leviathan barding on my Chocobo? I am more than ok with this
Yoshida also said that a pet will mean to half the power of the job itself. Also changing DRG in a Pet job make him more like Summoner and not unique. DRG need more jump skills to be true unique.Hoping 4.0 gives DRG pet like XI. SE has said their goal with expanding the jobs was to make them more fun and unique.
