[Balmung] Server Issues, safety, and overcrowding

I really wish it were possible to freely move between servers. I came to Balmung (originally Besaid) as I liked the RP community. However, I also want to be able to play with newer friends who join the game. Sure I can have them join another Aether data center world and do cross-server PF with them, but it'd be nice to be in an FC or linkshell with them, help them with crafting, or even just hang out in the world.

There's been a suggestion before...

If someone uses your recruit a friend code, they could be allowed to create a character on the same server as yours regardless of normal restrictions...



While it doesn't solve all the problems, and possibly creates some of its own, there it is.

You can control the content of public chat channels, as Grimmel pointed out, explicit and obscene content in public chat is highly reportable by anyone who feels offended or harassed by such stuff.

Yep and nop, as stated on other threads, GM won't do anything if you report content on public tchat cause your not the one targeted :/

1. Turn off Shout Chat
2. Report gross stuff in public channels and party finder
3. Get off Balmung.

I keep my shout chats and yell chats turned off and honestly I don't have a problem. If there are kids playing this then parents need to understand that the ESRB does NOT pertain to the social channels and they need to put in Parental controls to keep their tikes safe, such as disabling all general chats except maybe party when in instances.

For the people who don't want just one server, do you have a legitimate argument rather than: "I don't like big crowds!"

Server stability. It can't handle it.

They should name Balmung (THEE unofficial RP server) and a few of the low pop servers as Official RP servers and allow free transfers for a limited time from Balmung to those low pop servers, maybe the last 2 months before the expansion hits.

RP communities on any given game are rarely so large they could survive not being collectively gathered on a single server. I don't think FFXIV is an exception to this rule. Its not impossible to see a mass migration, mind you, just extremely rare. I remember in WoW when Moon Guard first launched as a new RP server the scattered community of RP'ers all went there. Then came the raiders cause the old servers didn't feel quite so alive and RP'ers generally played well enough to fill a spot in a raid if needed. Then came the Trolls because they were left alone on the old servers and had no one to troll. Then Goldshire was born...

Related, but map load times and hunt survivability. Also overworld mob things like quests/events. I don't like to wait in line to get something simple done.

Yep and nope, as far as I know, GMs can and should act on such complaints, but it's an area where they apply their own judgement to the situation. I think I am right in saying that strictly speaking, abusing a public chat channel to the extent that other players must block that channel is interfering with their play and can be acted upon. But as you say, it may not be acted upon, depending on the GM's judgement. IIRC though, the terms and conditions of service we all agree to layout the grounds that a GM could use to take action, even if it is merely a word of warning to the folks needlessly imposing their RP on others.

Seems if they decided to call it an official RP server and maybe add 1 or 2 more I'm sure the game would still do fine (not add new servers but assign the RP tag to them). The problem now with the community is as we move into a lull period at the end of the expansion you start to see the true players, the ones still logging in consistently and if you're NA you're either on Balmung or Gilgamesh or you suffer because of it. By adding the RP tag to some of the servers it could help spread out those groups more evenly and by having a free transfer promotion it'd make it easier on FCs or groups of friends to make that move. This would also help correct low pop servers so they can thrive as well.
