[Balmung] Server Issues, safety, and overcrowding

Buying a house on Gilgamesh is difficult. Longer lockout times are making getting a character on Gilgamesh more difficult. I don't really do hunts on my alts, but I'm sure they drop quickly too.

You trade erp drama for raiding drama I guess, but overall I see the same problems on a slightly smaller scale.

Gilgamesh is currently a higher populated server, but it doesn't and likely never will achieve that same mythical status that Balmung has, though eventually it will become a problem in terms of sheer population too. Though I imagine Gilgamesh's population growth may eventually taper off, while Balmung's growth will never stop because of that server's reputation.

This simply isn't true. People call it Hollywood Greg for a reason. If you express even the slight interest in endgame content, people immediately recommend Gilgamesh. It is widely considered the most competitive server and only suffers slight population declines due to raiders unsubbing once they have beaten Savage enough times. Whenever a new raid tier opens, Greg is right behind Balmung in terms of population. Both servers have an allure to them. And none of this takes into account the amount of people hoping to play with Elysium or MrHappy.

I will say this. The ERP and Raid drama has more or less become a running gag. You won't see either nearly to the extent people joke about. More often than not, people called "elitist" on Greg simply have higher standards. They want healers to DPS, for instance, because it doesn't make sense not to. They expect you to put in a solid effort, basically. ERP on Balmung is very rarely seen outside closed off areas (houses) or done it party chat. Having been on the server for over a year, I've seen it only a handful of times.

Balmung created this problem and are the only ones who can stop it, as far as I'm concerned. Maybe reporting everything you see happen will make a difference, maybe not. But the only way SE could do anything involving erp related issues, is to issue a harsh text filter that can't be turned off, Phantasy Star Universe had one that changed the entire sentence to a combination of !#%& if the fliter found a word that wasn't accepted. If 14 had something close, your issue would die rather quickly but communication would also suffer from this as a side effect.

I don't think anything needs to be done by SE. No text filters or strict rules, paying $18 to transfers sucks yea along with the other restrictions but if bothers you so much then move to a different server or just ignore it don't be like "I don't like what they doing make them stop!!"

I think at some point Yoshida did say this is his end goal. To have all servers as one server in one big mega world. How that'll be possible? No idea.

Seems the topic has shifted, but to adress the OP's post again:
The game's rating is about what the game itsself offers, not what players say or do in the game.
Talking publicly about non-PG things is not allowed anyway though, but not because of the game's rating but because it is explicitly stated in the terms we all accepted.

That said, what people do or talk about in private chat is up to them and no one else.
So while ADVERTISING for a stripclub, brothel or whatever..is a problem and potentially reportable, actually engaging in it is not.
It's the same as how you are not allowed to flood the chat with bad swear words, but if you send your best friend a /tell saying "You a*****e, they all got the wrong idea because of you!xD" it's fine...
...because he isn't gonna report you, since you are friends and consider your insults friendly and fun, basically making them consensual.

Same with people's eRP. It's "okay" because they aren't gonna tell on each other. Basically, unless you can read it in a public chat, it's none of your business, even if you might think they are doing "that".
But yeah, public stuff...feel free to report if it bothers you that much. I'm not personally on Balmung so I don't know how bad the situation is, but from what I've heard from friends, it's still only a minority that RPs at all, much less eRP.

People naturally converge to population centers to due social, economical and communal benefits. Big cities have more jobs, more manpower, more money, more opportunities, more activity etc etc.

What alternate reality are you living in that people on Balmung who aren't 4 star crafters or end game raiding FC's that sell savage and ex primals, are actually making money?

Also what opportunities are there when Hunts are impossible for the average person to get into when S ranks die as fast as it takes to teleport to the zone? What opportunities are there when raiding FC's on our server are elitists about who they let join?

What incentive is there for Balmung players to transfer? Even setting aside the fee, you'll potentially lose gil and your house all to move to another server without a fraction of the population.

There is incentive. If free transfers became available to low pop servers off of Balmung, If you get your entire FC to transfer to a low pop server that has multitudes of housing available and a decent economy, you can buy up stock on balmung and sell on your new server and be able to purchase back that house you had. It's not rocket science.
