This is just anecdotal, but I've yet to see any vitriol thrown my way over mentor status. I have seen occasional cranky/snobby/edgy players, but I don't let them get to me. Probably something I learned to deal with when I started leveling tank jobs for the first time when HW launched.

Now I don't go out of my way to offer unsolicited advice unless someone is clearly struggling with something I'm familiar with or unless someone asks, but I always say hi at the beginning, congratulate everyone and wish them a safe journey at the end, and maybe remark on close calls and good saves if I see them.

If someone gets cranky about it, I'll pipe down, but only for that run.

This is pretty much what I do too. If I see a new player bonus pop up in an instance I try to give one or two points about a particular boss fight when we get to the gate even if no one pipes up that they're new. Yeah, it might be someone leveling an Alt but I'm not really detracting from the run either and I'm not directing my advice to any particular player either. If it's quite clear all the players understand the fight mechanics completely just by how they play on the first boss, I'll probably not bother giving advice on the following bosses as it seems pretty clear to me they understand what they're doing.

I think the only real time where I've given unsolicited advice was in a Copperbell (normal) run I had where there was a sprout ACN with Topaz Carby out. It annoyed the DRK tank we had greatly but eventually Carby just died due to aggro and after noticing that the ACN didn't resummon a Carby after a while made note of that in party chat and made not to use Emerald instead of Topaz. After the next pull the ACN did indeed summon Emerald Carby into the fray and things went smoothly from there. I made my notes about specific bosses as we hit them up and reminded the ACN to resummon his Topaz Carby once he left as the Topaz Carby is great for solo play but not so much for party play due to having a dedicated tank most of the time. There was never a single word from this ACN but I ended up walking away with three commends that run so I'll take it that people appreciated the talk xD
