Maybe if they make a12s clear as requirement to become a mentor people will be happy.
Because you need to clear A12S to know the Aery. Gotcha lol. The only purpose this would serve is idyllshire afk epeen measuring. Also, most of the mentor problems derive from laziness so I doubt just because someone clears A12S they are suddenly the only ones who are going to be enthusiastic about helping new players.

Most people do not even try for the mount. They just want the crown symbol next to their name to feel special.

Edit: in fact, now that I think about it, a majority of other mentors that I've spoken to either aren't even aware it exists, and again, a majority of the ones who do know of it aren't that motivated to work for it. It is a lot of time put in for Astrope.

As a relatively new mentor, I would support this or at least adding either an additional requirement in commendations (something much higher than required to become a mentor, or perhaps a counter that goes up each time you get a comm from a duty while you had mentor status on), or something like that.

I became a mentor because I enjoy helping others and see the Mentor Status (crown) as a means of letting people know at a glance that I'm willing to stop what I'm doing to answer a question or even look it up if necessary. Seeing as the mentor status can be turned on and off at will, it's simple to turn it off if I'm having a day where I'm not feeling very social or I'm busy with something else so even that isn't an excuse.

I don't mind helping people that have the will to learn and understand things. It's a pleasure to teach things to people that want to progress etc.
But im collecting mounts, and that's a really nice. People have such a bad image of mentors that i became the "silent type" grinding my mount and that's all. Want tips ? I will give you some, if you don't ask for anything i won't say anything anymore since people think you've to play like a god everytime as a mentor.

This is just anecdotal, but I've yet to see any vitriol thrown my way over mentor status. I have seen occasional cranky/snobby/edgy players, but I don't let them get to me. Probably something I learned to deal with when I started leveling tank jobs for the first time when HW launched.

Now I don't go out of my way to offer unsolicited advice unless someone is clearly struggling with something I'm familiar with or unless someone asks, but I always say hi at the beginning, congratulate everyone and wish them a safe journey at the end, and maybe remark on close calls and good saves if I see them.

If someone gets cranky about it, I'll pipe down, but only for that run.

I will say that with silent mentors it is t always becuse the mentor is bad take a player from the PS4 at most times the virtual keynotes is both slow to load and very slow to type with and I find the mentor is on the PS4 the party could pull and this then leaves the PS4 mentor fumbling to try and close this very clunky UI element and I will admit I have been locked out of a fight thanks to the keynotes blocking the pull announcement while trying to help a novice,

Sometimes as well a PS4 mentor may not have a keyboard which again means thay are forced to use the very clunky virtual keynotes as for pc mentors I know of a few times when my friends say they didn't see the question due to how chatty linkshells and fc can be

You don't need to be a skillful player to be a helpful mentor. Even if the advice you give is questionable, just being willing to GIVE advice, and be friendly and helpful, are valuable.

At the same time, just because you're a mentor doesn't mean you need to give unsolicited advice. If a run is going well, there's no reason to speak up. Sounds like this was not the case in the original post, though, as that run was NOT going well. Reporting that mentor might well be in order. While I doubt the GM would do anything immediately (it wasn't as though the bad mentor was deliberately harassing anyone), it would be a black mark against them. If they keep records of reports of this kind, eventually those black marks would add up, and possibly result in removal of Mentorship.

Sadly, "no keyboard" might be the issue, here. It boggles my mind that players still attempt to play a game so grounded in communication without one, when USB keyboards are so easy to come by!

Mentors are there to help and answer questions to the best of their knowledge. Yes a lot of ppl just want that crown next to their name.

As for playing skill it all depends really, someone that knows a job and the rotations should give advice about it when asked. The kind of mentor you don't want job advice from (going to use blm as an example) is a blm that uses a rotation like fire>fire>thunder III>fire>blizzard or blizzard>blizzard>blizzard III and so on

Wait a minute. I didn't know you get a 2 seats mount as achievement from getting mentor status?

If the community want to see changes in, people will need to report irresponsible mentors. I met a person who got the mentor status. I thought they were a good person, but after a few nasty opinion on 1-2 new players and other people who were still learning their job, I decided to report that ex friend.
