Bad Mentors?

What mechanism do we have in place to deal with mentors who are bad? Too many people treat it like an achievement (get it and forget it), rather than an in-game duty that has responsibilities and takes some of their time.

As in, people who have the icon, and either play their job poorly, gives out bad advice/wrong information to new players, just doesn't type anything at all, or all of the above?

Case in point: I was in a leveling roulette (The Aery) as tank, with a mentor WHM and 2 first timer dps.
The WHM used nothing but stoneskin and cure 1 all the way to the first boss. The dps ask if there is anything they should know.
I wait for the mentor to respond, about 30 seconds. Nothing.
I go on to explain the fight, then pull. The healer just spams cure 1 until I die, then we wipe. Run back. I ask him to try to keep me in the top half of my health bar. Try again. Same thing.

Do I report the person? Is it even possible for someone to lose their mentor status?

There is nothing you can do. It is so easy to achieve mentor status it isn't funny.

Also the description of that mentor WHM would've been alright if the dungeon was Sastasha. For the Aery it's like WTF?! That shite hits hard, at least it wasn't Vault.

Nothing you can do. There is no skill test to be a mentor and no requirement to help all the time.

One thing I constantly find myself saying is that maybe the devs should implement it so that people who want to be mentors have to have a certain number of votes from the people on their server or the community at large; something like that.

It really stinks that there are people who probably would not make the best teachers and have Mentor status, yet some people would make better teachers and don't have a Mentor tag. I can think of a few in my FC that fit this.

You can loose your mentor status, and if I recall correctly from when I got my mentor status once it's been taken away you can't get it back.

If that mentor whm had their crown showing and they didn't do what they were supposed to have done like explain the boss fight when asked you should be able to report that person for not fulfilling their role as a mentor.

I'm not sure if there is an option in the menu somewhere and am at work right now so I can't even take a look right now. If there isn't I would pick one of the report sections that would best describe their abuse of the mentor status.

2. GMs can remove mentor status if it is abused.

3. Being silent and not having combat performance up to your standards are probably not enough to warrant a GM doing anything, but you can always report and have a GM look into it anyway.

I have to agree to this to an extent.
A mentor that is a healer should know how to use a wide selection of their abilities as well as being able to help out with some dps.

Part of being a mentor is to answer questions when they're asked, now when they're asked in the NN so long as someone answers the question there shouldn't be an issue. Tho if you're in a dungeon with your mentor status on and someone asks a question in party chat you should be answering it and performing your role as mentor.

Nonetheless I think staying silent when asked for tips isn't the right way of doing things. It doesn't take long to write "sorry it's been a while since the last time I was here / since I last healed" or "it's my first time healing this, please be patient".

If they started to remove mentors based on lack of skill we would be left with almost no mentors.

Maybe if they make a12s clear as requirement to become a mentor people will be happy.

Remove the 2 seats mount from the mentor achievement = no more non-involved mentors.
