Not to put down anyone's enthusiasm, but the phrase "I'd play the heck out of that (if they put it in XIV)" really doesn't seem to pan out when that content goes live.
Let's look at a few examples:
Triple Triad: the fervor was real and so many people loved the heck out of it initially, but at this point in time the number of people who actively play TT on a consistent basis is very low. Are there people who devote their time to it? Yes, but that number is fairly low.
Chocobo racing/breeding: once again, massive fervor on release that is now mostly untouched content. People still do run it, but it's mostly a ghost town for competition.
Lord of Verminion: same as above, even though this was a new system for the game, and players are still around, but it's not anywhere near active.
Diadem: much like XI's zone, this place was heavily trafficked at first, but I don't think that there's much to be said since its been closed down to be revamped.
TL;DR: Content that people say "they'll play the crap out of" that generally isn't in line with the core concept of the game tends to fall flat, especially if that original interest is based off of nostalgia that XIV will never be able to replicate.
My opinion: something like a PvE battle arena with its own currency and glamour rewards like PvP's Wolf Marks would fit better, especially given the tone of this area.
