I have to give thumbs up if they roll region specific. Its no different then on 11. Ya sure you get the one linkshell out of 500 that has mixed NA/JP players, or that rare party you invite a jp and they say yes, or your seeking and they ask YOU only because there is absolutely nothing else to grab for their party.

In the end if there were region locked, we could play at more hours anytime because the server would have say 2000 NA online at 2am on the same server, opening up party invites etc instead of having 1000 NA here, then 1000 NA on a different server, and 1000 jp on one and 1000 on the other to equal the 2000 players online............

We have "moments" with other regions, we do not play with them, there is a difference.

BTW there is a very old video on youtube in FFXI where a JP GM was accusing an NA player for being racist for having NA ONLY in his party comment, yet the JP player reporting it had JP only in theirs.............. talk about crap. (Actually it was something similar but not exactly that above). At any rate, its to distinguish LANGUAGE type, not actual race. If a russian grows up in tokyo, what comment do you think youll see in his party search ?? I guarantee JP only. Language , not race. And if you find that video I'm talking about , that GM can go to ****. That was really messed up. I think he got jailed too, it was along time ago since I saw it lol.

I highly disagree that "all players from" X nation (pick whichever) refused to play with players from NA. I regularly played with mixed groups, often with several languages in the group. Sometimes I was the only non Japanese member, sometimes the only non French member, etc. It didn't matter - the auto translate feature, when used properly, provides plenty of partying communication. A little effort to play your job well and use that great feature was all that was needed.

The so called rampant use of "JP only" in search comments - I never once saw and I played FFXI from when CoP was new until Abyssea came out. It may have happened, but it was far more rare than people claim it was. There are plenty of jerks on the NA side too who would refuse to party with someone who didn't speak their language - there are jerks and there are nice players no matter where you come from or which language you speak.

I am sure that some players felt they were excluded, but please don't speak for everyone. One of the biggest draws to me about FFXI was how worldwide the popular was. My server had a very large Japanese, NA, and EU mix and as a result I became friends with people from all around the world. I also could play at any time of day or night because there were people awake and playing any time I happened to have time to play. I did not experience the sort of things so many of you are claiming happened "all the time."

In contrast, when I played WoW, where my server was all NA, if I wanted to play during the day it was solo or nothing. It restricted me to playing with groups at only the peak hours or on weekends, which is typically when I can't play, based on my schedule. I really dislike the concept of region specific servers. I will absolutely choose a world server.

Making a connection between JP ONLY and "JPs are isolationist who hate playing with anyone else" is quite the stretch. There are multiple reasons, but I guess we can all generalize them under "hating foreigners" or whatever.

    Nope, not racist at all.

If there's even one international server offered, I'm joining that one, and I'll hope you'll join me.

The reason Japanese prefer to play with Japanese speaking people is because speaking in another language can be embarising when not to mention it can get kind of tough, trying to concentrate on a fight while thinking how to say things in another language, these are just a couple of reasons why they dont like playing with people that dont speak Japanese.

In Japan its not as important as Europe to speak English, so alot less Japanese people have had enough education in English as in France, Germany, Spain etc which is why the Germans, Spanish, French dont mind communicating in english because they know the language almost as well as thier native language.

There is nothing we can do about it, other than selfishly act like they should be forced to continue playing with us when they don't want to. If my bitterness about the subject has somehow been misconstrued as anti-JP sentiment, let me assure you that's not the message at all. It's simply an acknowledgement of the reality of the situation. If you think it's all about the language barrier, you're missing most of the picture. It's a cultural divide, not a language barrier. They mostly just don't like the way that non-JPs play the game.
Agreed. I don't get why stating the obvious is racism. It's not just Japanese, it's everyone. My cousin used to run a bunch of dedicated game servers from his house and his website started with DK. All of his servers also had his website in the title. DK happens to also be the country code for Denmark... In any game, it would lead to countless threats and screaming of "You're not ****ing Danish, get the **** off the server!" - "Danish only you idiots!"- and all sorts of other things. What amazed me was my cousins bonded T connection apparently was so great that people connecting from Denmark didn't experience any lag and thought the server was just a hundred or so miles away!

But just playing with all these Danish people in all this servers, it's exactly like one person said - they weren't playing to power game and brag about their skill. They were playing for social reasons. To talk about their country, things going on, ask how things are in other parts, talk about their culture, etc. etc. I think this is a prevailing "process" in not just Japan but a lot of Europe. They weren't focused on finding game breaking mechanics or powering through, it was more just something like a relaxing dinner conversation while playing a game and laughing. So much like you said - difference in play styles, culture divide, etc. etc.

I fully agree, my friend. Playing in an international server is the best way to enjoy FF14 or any other MMO. I really dislike the idea of making country sided servers.

If the NA servers are not Within NA and there in JP then there no point of even adding a NA / JP only servers the ping would be the same and that the only reason why people would even join a NA for low Ping.

SE if you not going to put the NA servers in NA then don't even do it we like playing with others even if the JP players don't like to playing with us then that fine by me but not seeing them would make me sad there a few JP players who enjoy playing with us and i have a few in my linkshell and i help them out. But making a JP / NA and so on servers would make them leave to join with there friend and we wont see much JP players

Yes, we have already considered this scenario. We will not be treating the language servers as new worlds, so there is no need to worry.
    Hi Bayohne,

If you could pass along a follow-up concern to Team Yoshida:

With this latest comment, I hope it doesn't mean some existing servers are automatically designated as Language-Specific Servers (e.g., "Besaid will now be Japanese-Only Server." or "Rabanastre will be German-Only Server." etc.). Because then you're forcing players who call those servers "home" to jump to another server instead.

    I hope this gets clarified.

And to cast my vote, I'd rather have Global Servers still (and I hope we aren't forced to move from our server to new Global ones). It's a much more colorful, enjoyable and fun experience to have people from around the world on at various times of the day.

    Thanks!
