    Feb 2012= Basic Features done
April 2012= "We shift over to the 2.0 Client" In which in turn need to have the servers that can withstand 2.0 client. As it stands with the Current FFXIV Server, I highly Doubt the Current servers could last on the 2.0 Client.

Also, they are Progressively Fixing the servers each and every patch ( probably even after 2.0) the server will keep getting tweaks and stuff.

But In April 2012= We will be in the 2.0 Client, which in turn need to have servers that can withstand it.

You're vastly misunderstanding the notes we got. The game, 2.0, comes out in 2013. They weren't even vague about it. Look at just the first slide:

    http://wdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/dow...Roadmap_EN.pdf

They start DISTRIBUTING 2.0 client in October. The Closed Beta/Free Trial/PS3 release are slated for end of 2012, start of 2013.

I think Gramul said it best:

all we can do is wait.

The amount of time we have to do so is just a bit surprising given how optimistic they've been in all their hype. I guess a lot of that optimism was in my head too and I refused to see just how bleak things really were.

If this was wall street this would be an unsound investment based off past market information. I'm probably going to pay but i don't think its good business practice to make people pay for a game leading up to its re release. There's a reason the game had to be remade.
    This exactly.

I have been one of the people on the fence, occasionally looking in at the changes. If they came out and said "we've made most of the major changes we have planned, like it or leave it now" I would probably pay and play.

But to say "we're redoing everything, and we want you to pay for it." I already have payed, when I bought the game, it was broken, its their responsibility to fix it, not mine.

Imagine you bought a new car, it breaks down when you get it home. You take it in, and they say they are going to completely remake the car, but you have to pay for it, after having bought it in the first place. I doubt anyone, no matter how much you loved that car, would go for that. I don't see why fans of this game would pay to play, even if you are having fun on the game now.

What makes you think I don't play this game?

You do realize I need to have an active account to post here, right? And I do, with certainly more levels under my belt than your joke of a character.

But the people who are still here have something to gain or lose by SE's decisions going forward. Every person posting here has bought the game and created at least one character, or they wouldn't be able to post here.

I'd be much quicker to go by what I see on this forum where the members each have an investment in and a stake in the future of the game, than I would on other sites (I've seen people mention ZAM, for example) where people who have no stake, nor necessarily even any real interest in the game can "voice their opinions".

70% of the people who've "voted" on this site saying they'll proceed with the subs and 30% saying they won't carries more weight IMO, because those votes come from people who are actually playing and whom the changes will actually impact going forward.

Incidentally, I'd have the same point-of-view if the numbers were reversed and 70% said they wouldn't sub. So it's not a bias thing.

And frankly, saying that this site is more prone to fanboy-like behavior than any other seems like a non-sequitur. Anyone posting here could just as easily be posting on any other site being just as fanboyish. Same goes for those who don't like or are looking to troll the game.

It's not as though there's some rule stating "If you're a fan of the game, you only post on the official forums, else you post everywhere else".

SE did something right for once, they outlined their long term plans in a crystal clear layout and left it up to the players to decide for themselves what they want to do. Can't fault them for relaying the truth for a change. Better to know what's coming then sit around and guess.

BTW. there is more than just "bug fixes" planned up until 2.0.

Yes, it's plain to see that they weren't giving it their all to fix this game. They were giving it their all to create a new game instead.

I just don't understand people... where is your logic?

Games take a long time to develop. They have stated these "basic" things that you think can be so easily implemented are far more trouble than they have expected. This is due to the original design teams poor choices for database and structural design. This has caused "simple" things like LS controls to be very very complex and take a long time.

This is the reason they are changing databases, migrating to a new engine, etc... Notice they released info about adding your name (crafters) to something you make? And how to accomplish this you would first have to trade your gear to an NPC and extract it later. They are going to convert the gear into 'new' version that will allow you to add names, just like this recent patch made all your gear 'out-dated' and won't accept materia. They have to change things from the ground up and it takes time and a lot of work.

I'll ask this question for probably the 10th time... have you ever worked on a coding project? Have you ever been given someones half-finished coding project and been told to make it work? Think of the amount of time it would take to go through and figure out everything, recreate it, improve upon it, add to it... Jebus H Chrystoz. Get a clue, get some logic.

Someone should make clear here that no one in this thread has been able to correctly read the development timeline yet.

It's pretty clear in those PDFs the planned development and release schedule. The 2013 date quoted by the OP is the release of the 2.0 game client for PS3 to buy in shops.

The October 2012 Distribution of 2.0 client is the point where we PC players will get our new client download. That appears to be to give us a couple of weeks to get what will no doubt be a sizeable install.

Then we have the "Merging of version 2.0 and current client software" "Version 2.0 Free Trial Period for PC" and "Playstation 3 System Beta". That runs from November 2012 to Jan 2013.

Before November I would expect a V2.0 Beta for PC with a limited number of people on a test server with the new client software. Once server and client code is considered stable they will have an extended maintenance to convert all current FFXIV accounts and characters to the new 2.0 system. We players will have to have our new 2.0 client installed during that to be able to log in again after the maintenance.

At that point we will probably have a week or 2 of stress testing with some fire fighting patches and once they are happy with the stability of 2.0 for the paying subscribers they will open up the second free trial period for anyone who ever bought FFXIV. I would expect some time before that they will remove current copies of FFXIV from store shelves.

Aroudn this time PS3 betas will be issued and they will either have a test server for those players to play together or maybe a test server eve / wow style where PC players can choose to play with the PS3 people. It would be really nice if we got access to the PS3 client if we own a PS3 to help.

In Feb 2013 the PS3 client will be released in the shops along with a big marketing push and probably a new PC special edition.

In the mean time we players of FFXIV have several large updates to look forward to as well as an evolving story line leading to an event marking the "reinvention" of the world. A "Cataclysm" if you like
