So, you don't want to wait 1 year and would rather like to play a buginfested game?

I only wish if its 6months later ~ not a whole year b/c its faaar awaaay xD but i hope next updates will help me wait .

Game development takes a very long time, and given how much was wrong with the game and how much they're having to rebuild, I'm not at all surprised by the timeline.

I wholeheartedly agree. It really isn't enough at this pace. I was quite taken aback too. We won't get server improvements for a year and yet that was the biggest issue with the game since alpha. You'd think this ought to have been their first priority and to be released ASAP.really???
I've gone through the phonebook of info now 3 times over and it seems like they're dedicating another year only to minor tweaks for us who are still playing the game.
AH, player housing, terrain changes and storyline revamps are all for the very extremely distant future in 2013??
Can somebody please slap me and tell I missed something. I'm literally dumbstruck by this decision. It's like SE just punched us in the stomach.
The pdf certainly gives something worth waiting for but they're all basic MMO stuff most of the forum poster though were going to be implemented by march this year while the most pessimistic of trolls joked about them being ready around "2 years from now". I can't believe they were right.
I just wish this is all a big mis-understanding of hilarious proportions on my part and or this is all just a terrible nightmare.
I think they spent too much time trying to make a different game instead of improving the game they had.
They played the long game. And in the meantime lost the short game.
They said they could please current players while still making the game for 2013, but they can't. They haven't.
Who are you talking for? You sure as hell aren't a current player.
I'm not a particularly violent person but the people who played this game only "because it might get better later" needed that punch to get in touch with the reality. If you didn't like this game from the beginning why did you play it?It's like SE just punched us in the stomach.
Himself at least?
Both of you bring up an interesting point however. I think this will divide the player-base into active and non playing players. The people who have been content with the quantity and quality of the patches will keep playing while the others will quit or wait for 2013 to bring "the better XIV" around.

You are putting it too black and white. People will still have the option to come back for 1.21 (jobs), 1.22 and 1.23 (Imperial Stronghold)Himself at least?

Edit: After all the quitting I think 1.21 (jobs) will see the major boost in population and depending on implementation and content the largest retention of players.
Speak for yourself. You don't play.
The lag is still prevalent. I end up spamming actions as much as ever (even before the combat update) due to the server lag. The dye system ruined a lot of the game. The crafting dumb down oversimplified crafting. The materia system is just a grind with a Korean RNG crafting system tacked onto it at the end for kicks.
They've made some headway, but it isn't enough. "You sure as hell aren't a current player."
Maybe you should ask SE that. They are brutalizing a lot of the original game concepts (such as non-instanced world). If you didn't like this game from the beginning why did you play it?

I'll just pretend you didn't embarrass yourself by pretending you play this game and that I don't and focus on your next point. It's true the game was never entirely uninstanced, but one of FFXIV's original philosophies was to keep players playing in the same world. I think that's what an MMO should be about. It should be a virtual world, not just an entrace lobby, nor a substrate to connect players. And whether or not FFXIV has a history of acheiving this concept, it was certainly a base philosophy. Yoshi is straying too far from this original philosophy.
And if you hated this philosophy "then why did you play this game to begin with?"
Oh that's right, you don't play it.
