DEV REQUEST (again): The Emperor's New Shield

Would that come under the semi-translucent models idea I brought up, or is this again something different? I'm not sure if we're thinking along the same lines here or not.

It could be we are thinking of the same things but I just can't word it in a way that makes sense XD. I'm having trouble thinking of how to describe ethereal/ephemeral items XD.

The answer to this thread has been answered already. It doesn't need reviving. It's a waste of front page space. Lock it and let it die.


It's not even up for discussion. The devs gave us a very valid and reasonable reaponse last time.

Alexander states the truth, SE already put the matter to rest a while ago in a similar thread:

We don't have any plans to make all weapon types transparent; however, for monks, we are planning to release something once we look more into the concept of fighting with their own fists.
From a World setting and story perspective, not having a visible shield would mean that you couldn't use shield bash or shield lob, and as such we have no plans to introduce an "Emperor's New Shield." However, we may be able to make a small shield so that it doesn't stand out too much, so we will look into that.

So basically, they stated why this would not be possible and that a small buckler type shield will be a compromise.

Besides, if you really must role play a swordsman who doesn't wield a shield, simply unequip the shield when roleplaying and equip it when entering dungeons or stuff. Or switch to DRK. Because PLD is pretty much identified as a shield user (why else is the very Job icon a shield?), and making the shield invisible would contradict that.

I'm pretty sure this was brought to Yoshi-P's table in an interview once before, and he gave a flat out 'no' because it would've strayed away from what a paladin was supposed to be, or something.
I dunno. Yoshida logic is lost on me most of the time.

To the people saying to play DRK: What if I want to be a holy knight and not an edge lord?

To people saying to wait for a sword class that isn't PLD: Like what, SAM? Can't be a European Knight themed character as a super sugoi samurai now can I. Or a little fencing sword using RDM for that matter. Or curved desert swords using BLU.

So unless Rune Fencer/Mystic Knight is added as a European style hand-and-a-half sword using (Rune Swords) job as the last 4.0 job I'm a bit out of luck now aren't I. Unless, that is, SE adds an Emperor's New Shield.

The more achievements you get from PvP, the more rewards you can get from it. The rewards can be obtained in two stages 1. Gold Saucer - Equipments undyable 2. Good to know. I'll admit your point, I will look stupid throwing an invisible shield but I'll look pretty cool with that one-hander. I grew up on He-Man and the like (80's kid) and yeah I know the DRK has no shield, but the size of those blades disrupts my immersion as much as a WonderWoman shield (invisible.... get it?) will bother other's. So agree to disagree?
