This is my stance too, I don't like XIV's story but I accept that it's a Final Fantasy game with online tacked on the bottom, I knew what I was getting into being a fan of this series for a good chunk of my life. You have to love the mentality though
"I moved on from WoW because that game doesn't do it for me anymore, I need a new take on the genre while also feeling familiar enough for me to get into"
    Later on
"Why isn't this game exactly like WoW? I want this game to be like WoW why doesn't FF do thing like generic MMO #3421?"

    Really makes you think.
I don't know a thing about business, maybe it will harm the game in the long run but FFXIV has its audience now, I'd rather devs pander to us who have stuck around for a good 3 years, even 5 for those that played during 1.0 as opposed to little timmy from WoW who will most likely only play for a week or two. I do think they really shot themselves in the foot with 2.0 questing though where I guess it does feel like WoW 2.0 with its boar butt collecting questing.

The reason that people have an issue is that the devs acknowledged feedback and have done nothing about it. Jump potions are not a solution
I'd just prefer they let us do the story quests on our own terms - kinda like how Guild Wars 2 has its story in episodes that you can start whenever you please.

But yeah, agree with your point. They've said "this is an issue and we know it" and yet their solution is to charge us money for the privilege of getting around the problem they apparently are willing to continue.

What if the potion provided a video summing up the story thus far up to level x.

As someone that thoroughly abhors questing: The msq in this game is actual fun and engaging, unlike most games quests.

Are you talking about ARR or HW? Because as I recall majority of it was "Go here" "Hey come back so I can tell you something I could have easily told you over our linkshell" "Go back to where you were and tell them what I just told you" "Come back to me and tell me what they said". Why I mainly started to skip around Shiva cus I just couldn't take anymore cus I was literally running back and forth so much for filler it seemed.

Don't get me wrong, if you enjoyed it more power to ya, but I can see why some people wouldn't mind skipping. Find the game fun but the story as hassle, uninteresting, or just plain boring for some.

I do not want jump potions for either the story or job levels, but if they absolutely must be added, I think it would be best if they could only be used if you have already cleared the story once on some character on the account for the story potion, and you can only use that job's potion if you have already fully leveled up that job on some character on the account for the job potion. Yes, this prevents new players from getting into the game and just jump skipping to the end, and that's the point. Jump potions, for the NA region, should only be used for when you want to make an alt, even if on another server, to play with other people and you don't want to transfer your main. Forcing players to go through the story at least once and level whatever job they want to jump with to max at least once will be the most healthy for the game in our region, in my opinion.

Despite being in favor overall of a skip potion, this would have been my preferred solution as well. I don't like that the MSQ roadblocks everything, not necessarily that the leveling content is a problem in and of itself. I think it causes a variety of problems for the game both at the starter level AND the "veteran" level, because mandatory MSQ requirements mean that the rest of us have to constantly be funneled back into old instances via skinner box techniques to make sure that "no newbie is left behind".

In an ideal world, they would have removed the mandatory MSQ chain flags and simply made the quest flags based on character level instead, even if it made the story a bit disjointed. People could still do every quest if they felt like it (god knows I do this in WoW anyway, gotta level Alliance characters next to do their story zones), but it wouldn't be required for people who just feel like playing at their own pace. I'll take a skip potion for $$$ if that's all we're going to get, but on a personal level I would have rather them just fix the bloody MSQ flagging.

What does this actually promote in regards to the health of the game in our region? Just curious.

    It promotes nothing.

The MSQ teaches the player nothing about how to play their class , even most of the Class/JOB quests fail to teach the player on how to play their Class/JOB beyond the basic stuff. I dont like the jump potion, the idea that someone can basicly pay to reach level 60 with all the current classes (minus SB and maybe DoH, DoL classes), makes me fear for the future of FFXIV. I do understand that the game needs it, because doing this way will make SE more money while they spend less resources then if they were to change the ARR and HW Quests.

Still, can we please stop saying that the MSQ or JOB quests teaches the players on how to play properly. You know what teaches the players to play properly, the players themselves and the community. The player himself/herself must want to bring their A-game and the community must be more helpful when it comes to guiding newcomers. At the end of the day, if Bob or Janet do not want to read the what their skills does or do not want to play properly, then nobody can help them, we can shout, we can insult them or kick them, if they do not want to change, they will not improve.

Personaly, I think they should introduce the JUMP Potion, but force the players to do the story dungeons, this will teach them more then the MSQ or JOB quest and lets not forget just, because You and I like the storyline and want to read everything, does not mean BoB or Janet like to do the same. If newcomers want to rob the enjoyment of doing the MSQ or JOB quests from themselves, then that is their choice, what they know or not know about the MSQ will not affect you.
