Optional Items were added October of 2014. With the previous year's All Saints Wake being the first addition for seasonal items from a past event.
This was all planned by Square Enix.

    - 1.0 was 1.0, it was hard enough just to retain subscribers.
    - ARR's 1st year is not a past practice of how everything will be.

Past Seasonal Items on the CS has continued that practice since its implementation.

"Since the announcement in Las Vegas concerning the optional item shop, players around the glove have been very vocal with their opinions. While many comments have been positive, there have also been a number of players who have expressed their worry wondering what is going to happen to Final Fantasy XIV in the near future. I want you guys to know, *points to Yoshida*, I don't have to translate that, no pay to win.

So I have been checking out the forums this past week, and we've heard a lot of different opinions including, for example, will future minions only be obtainable through optional item shop? No. Some people are worried that maybe we will sell dungeons. No pay to win.

Again, through the optional item shop, again, will be you have to pay for these items, with those funds we can do many different things for the game, for example, using that money to create more minions and more vanity items to include in to the game, and to obtain in game. Again, using those funds to create new vanity items and new gear like the spring dresses. The profits can also be put towards creating more housing options, more servers, so we can have more plots of land. And finally the biggest thing, is using these profits to create a better play experience for players, like adding the new EU Data Center.

The money we get from these optional item shops, we want to give back to the community. It's all about giving back to the community that has given so much to us, and working together to build a better Eorzea."
    - They delivered an EU DataCenter.
    - There are plenty of ingame achieved minions, mounts and vanity gear that have been added since implementation of the CS.
    - They expanded housing wards and added apartments.
    - 4.0 is bringing in a new housing district.
    - 4.0 is expanding inventory and upgrading servers.
    - Wondrous Tails has some cash shop minions as possible rewards ingame.
Dress-up version minions, not cash shop. TY for the correction.

It's one thing to have an opinions for / against the CS, its items, and its pricing.
It's another to exaggerate and over-bloat information to make your opinion, seem set in stone fact.

I wish SE would make an official statement on the actual forums to follow up on their original statement I quoted above regarding the CS and how much it has given back. While staying true to: no pay to win.

While I am agreeable with the rest of your post in that the way they're doing things now is fine, and profitable in a way that we as players can see, I just wanted to point out that the WT minions aren't the same ones as the Mogstation minions. Same character, yes, but different minion.

You are correct, they are "Dress-up" versions. My mistake.
