I think it's pretty awful how it is structured. New players' enjoyment should not be compromised for this. I have all of the holiday items I need, but each holiday that passes I think of how blatant a money grab it is.

I don't care too much that items exist within RMT stores, however when it comes to items that existed within a game, I think it's a really low tactic.

I have kept basically all of my holiday items at the expense of transmog, gear, and crafting material spaces so I don't have to shill out over $50 for holiday items.

It would be awful to be a new player and see the selection of items available to them for the Starlight Festival, and to me it's a disconnect between Square caring about their player base having fun versus what they can charge for.

I think it's less about entitlement, and more about goodwill intentions by Square that make players happy to support them.

Even longer threads asking not for it.

Old event items were never available again during the subsequent years event. They only started adding them to the mogstation because people wanted them back.

    This, please.

Unfortunately, once you go Cash Shop, there usually is no "going back".

Nope. Up until the second summer event, old holiday stuff was available on vendors.

You can only get the past event outfit items you already got from the events from the npc vendors, not the housing items. I'd really like to see the event housing items either come back for each years event or maybe turn into crafted items that use materials only dropped/available during the event period. Any of the items that can't be retrieved once placed (wallpapers, lights, etc) shouldn't even touch the mogstation.

Yeah, this is getting really ridiculous. I was iffy about these items being put on the mogstation in the first place, but the last two events they made the housing items untradable and market-prohibited as well, meaning that unlike past events you now have NO WAY to obtain them after the event except by buying them on the mogstation. This is bad for the people who want the items and also bad for those of us who like to buy extras as an investment...

Fix this, SE, because it looks REALLY bad for you, when every event before you opened the mogstation featured a vendor selling previous years' items for gil, and post-mogstation you remove that feature. You can keep them on the mogstation for people who need Christmas items off season for some bizarre reason, but let us buy them for gil during the holiday (And TRADE THEM after).

Event items are always untradeable and market prohibited when they are first released in game. The restriction usually gets lifted like 6 months later in a patch. That's why you can buy starlight sentinels and the wall decorations from last year on the MB now. People who aware of this trend always buy extras of the event items and hold them in their retainers until the restriction is lifted and then sell them a year later for max profit when the event happens again and people don't want to pay for mogstation version.

A lot more than just two were like this.
But over time the items restriction were lifted and were able to be sold.

I am much happier that they offer something unique each year, rather than rehashing the same stuff each time. Variety is a great spice, and even if this leaves some people without specific items at times, it only gives them a sense to be creative with their decorating.

Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but I recall the event items still being tradable when first released, just not via the marketboard. And even if that's not correct, the market-prohibited status was typically removed after the next event or the next patch, both of which have passed since the Rising items were released, and yet they remain both untradable and market prohibited.

I would very dearly love to be wrong, but the lag is making me worry.

I see you express this sentiment every time the issue of exclusive items or glamour comes up, and I'm still utterly baffled as to how you came by the conclusion that having fewer options available will somehow result in more variety. It's very hard to be 'creative' when you have only one decoration at your disposal, unless by 'creative' you actually mean 'deciding whether to use this one thing or just give up and not decorate at all'.

Conversely, if you have ten different items to choose from, you can choose to use all of them, five different ones, only one item, et cetera. If everyone has access to all ten of these items, the people who decide to use all of them will have all the same stuff out, but the combinations and quantities of each will most likely be different, given that more items = more possible permutations of their use. Meanwhile, if I choose five decorations and my neighbor also chooses five, the chance that we'll end up with all the same stuff are pretty low, and it's even less likely that we'll use them all in the same way.

My point is, the potential for creativity is directly proportional to the number of options you have available to you, not inversely.

To exemplify that fact, a small example:

If you have 2 items, you can choose to put neither, 1, 2 or both down. 4 Options. If you have 3 items, you can choose to put neither, 1, 2, 3, 1 and 2, 1 and 3, 2 and 3 or all of them down. That's 8 options. Now with 4 items: Neither, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1 and 2, 1 and 3, 1 and 4, 2 and 3, 2 and 4, 3 and 4, 1 and 2 and 3, 1 and 2 and 4, 1 and 3 and 4, 2 and 3 and 4 or all of them. 16 options. The amount of options (and thus, diversity) doubles with every item you add here. And that's only unique combinations without paying regard to order/placing. If you do, it becomes exponential.
