I also don't want viera (for so many reasons), but asserting that the devs won't make it viera is silly. yokai from yokai watch don't have the same lore as their game, nor do the classic FF cosplay outfits, but that doesn't mean that SE wouldn't make the race 1) look the same, and 2) have the same name.

That... still doesn't discount my point in any way. Going back to your original point, you said:

You are right, Au'ra could have been a rabbit race not called Viera, but what you said is that we would never get viera because the devs won't ever consider putting an existing race from another game into XIV. Viera wasn't "mentioned", I linked you concept art of a proposed Viera race, fully lifted from ivalice and named Viera. This shows that the devs have considered the race in its totality, and whether they ultimately choose yes to viera, no to viera, yes to a rabbit race not viera, all options are still valid.

Depends what you mean by try different things. There are a ton of different kinds of MMOs; some caught on and some bit the dust. As it is, investors seemingly don't want to really invest into the MMO genre because it's a huge risk. Add that with trying something new and you'll probably find even less willing investors.

Its our money we are investing into this game. its what keeps it going I love the nostalgia and that but more has to come for our characters, its what makes us, us we want to look different from others.

We want to fit our roles so we try but glamour isn't good enough it should have more towards that stuff, I don't mind when we sub and poor our money into the game but I sure would love something different for face and looks even one eye open or broken horns.

When looking at this games current race selection it can be very easy to argue the point everything fits, all race being only slight variations of humans seem to believably exist in this fantastical setting. This i feel helps add to not only immersion of FFXIV but helps the more nuanced aspects of it's storyline narrative (the quality of which puts all other mmorpg's to shame) by giving us actual facial emotes rarely seen done as well as in FFXIV. Yes Viera would be slimmer Elezen with bunny ears, but the would fit in with the current aesthetic of Hydalen as a playable race much better than say a NuMu... If the idea of bunny guys and girls is so repulsive, why are you here? The game launched with catgirls, dog guys two different human male, one female and an elf race for options. It's on the box art and the trailers. This is Final Fantasy, WoW, GW1/2, ect..., have a look all their own. Having played those other games, I chose the one because the world is more consistent, created to facilitate a level of immersion that i never had with those other games. I hope Viera get put in this game eventually, I feel they will be right at home with our current options.

And I linked you the Au Ra concepts snippit, whence your picture also originated from in FanFest 2014 mentioning the new race and concepts they went through. As I said, we were getting Au Ra one way or another, it just had a chance of looking like Viera with said picture as one of the many concepts (just like they had demonic (looks heavily like voidsent succubi), draconian, beastly (looks like wolves), viangaa (the joke race they showed before the first FanFest even happened) and, you guessed it, viera. Oddly enough, the fact that they made the April Fool post was a little at the expense of the players, namely those that so fervently wish for Ivalice races in Eorzea.

I never said they wouldn't consider putting in an existing race from another game into FFXIV. You're confusing my post with someone else as I recall reading that as well when people were talking about the Ivalice races and the races found here in FFXIV. I only chimed in that even if the designs were similar, they do not equate to being the same race. Just like how they named the jobs in FFXIV over certain other classes; more people are familiar with summoner over evoker. People are more familiar with monk over black belt. People are more familiar with white mage over devout. Paladin over holy knight, even though the Warriors of Darkness use many of the other names for their jobs. Again, it's the same business here; the name Viera brings more of a reaction than "bunny" or, as the poll actually labeled it, mammalian demi-beastmen, which even Yoshida mentions he thinks it got so many votes simply because he mentioned Viera.

I woulda liked viera too personally, hell think it woulda been a nice time to make the viera of ff 14 more animal looking akin to like ff 11 catgrills. At this point though id like em to maybe do more customization though, Yoshi-P made it pretty clear that on the character development side they aren't gonna give him too much slack on creating "ugly" things so more races of boy/girl with insert animal body parts will just get annoying imo. (could still prolly make that part of the char customization though :P), Well guess the other reason was dev time on having similar body types vs dev time on different types but viera coulda just been elezen ish on their body types, though a ass-less "fran" woulda irked me XD

I don't mind Viera happening, as long as they do something to the character creator in 4.0, because the level of customization in this day and age is a tad bit basic, and with the amount of players... you are likely to meet a twin very quickly.

No new race is being added in 4.0 (Yoshida, already confirmed this), but I too hope that they add faces/beard/tattoo's etc to the character creator. The sad thing is, Yoshida has not once mentioned anything about expanding the character creator, if we are lucky, we might hear something in the JP FanFesta and EU FanFesta.

Personaly, I think we will only get new hairstyle, new sitting emote and new pose aka status quo .... I hope I am wrong.
