So Im guessing you never died from anything in the game and ran through everything perfectly fine on your first try every time ?Î dislike new players I always want to leave if I get a new person but since a penalty is most of the time not a option (well for me as no lifer it is) I try it. I really dont want to waste my time helping when people can just check a guide or smth. Im not here to do job except mine which I do. Why is that ? Because whenever you help ppl they dont want to hear it and are just angry at u + insult. So tolerance for me very low.
I have no problem with it because they are only human. I've struggled on parts that patient players helped me learn and get through. Therefor I return the favor by doing my best to help other new players. Don't really understand the frustration. Everyone has a different skill level, and knowledge of how things work. Nothing in the game is going anywhere so if people just took the time to help, instead of rushing this probably wouldn't be an issue.
I'd rate myself a 5/10 on the patience scale these days, but I attribute that mostly to the utter fails I've come across lately. Black Mages that single target everything, tanks that overpull in leveling dungeons and cause a wipe, people entering ex-primals undergeared without a clue what to do when there are guides out there.
But on the other hand, you'll come across groups where the entire group is outstanding and you one-shot Titan Ex sync'd or burn through a dungeon in record time and wish you could commend every single person in the party.
I'm not really intolerant of unskilled players. However, I'm fairly intolerant of stubborn players. For examples: tanks that insist on pulling small groups, despite barely getting hurt or having agro problems; healers who refuse to DPS, and just sit around jumping in circles; DPS who refuse to listen to advice etc. That said, I never express my intolerance towards these players. I either complain on FC chat, or just queue in for things with friends only.
I am mostly frustrated by players who are rude to other players.
All of that said, I find that players I see in roulettes are generally fine and I have little problems with them. Sure, I do 60% of the DPS with the other DPS/Healer and Tank doing 40% combined, in most expert runs, but whatever. As long as the tank pulls fully and everyone is actively playing, I'm fine.
A new player wearing incorrect gear (ie: STR on a BRD/MCH/NIN or grossly underlevelled weaponsfor example) are, in my experience, completely synonymous with stupidity/laziness. I have zero tolerance for these players and will drop at the first opportunity.
Any other new players operate under a three strike rule unless they are actively asking questions and willing to learn from their mistakes.
My patience was far better when the game first released but now I've just become cynical due to the amount of times/ways the DF/PF continues to make me despair.
You're good at the game? You're an elitist.
You're using a parser to better yourself? Elitist.
You're making suggestions on how someone can improve themselves? E l i t i s t.
You wipe a farm party constantly but you're having fun playing your way. Nah you're fine dude.
This community astounds me at times.
Because of the nature of Humans. My tolerance level is substantially high for players that struggle. The only way for me to vote kick someone is if said player is failing on purpose, or being negative. If you are a solo que player like me, you have to have the patience to clear the dungeon.
It's an utmost importance that I stick to the duty until the timer on the clock hits Zero. I can never expect to eventually get a clear done if I keep hopping. It takes time for players to acclimate with one another to achieve the same goal. Sometimes it takes longer for others. Sometimes it clicks instantly for the most part. The key part to me is to be patient and kind to one another in a duty.
How the heck am I supposed to expect an under performer to get better if I keep betching about their mistakes?
It's also ironic when players throw in unnecessary insults in the name of "supporting them to get better". Then when that said player messes up and is given the same heat, they can't take it and leave.

What you call human nature others might call masochism or Stockholm Syndrome...
The crux of the issue of the whole thread is pretty much as you described though - where do you draw the line between someone being negative and someone who is legitimately trying but just isn't at all getting it? Both very different situations but at face value can seem exactly the same.
I'm curious on your thoughts!

- using gear that is not for your class
- not knowing how your skills work
- asking my party what to do in faceroll content
My function brain did and still do avoid me from the stuff I mentioned above. Im not saying Ive never died but I knew how smth works when I try smth unless there are no guides (fresh content for example). I dont start a game to get carried or being ignorant (which most ppl are who go in like this). This game isnt hard you should never struggle on the way to endgame as a new player and even endgame content is fairly easy compared to other MMOs.
