Besides the obvious answer of "Yes I'd improve", using current savage content as an example, its much easier than prior savage.
But despite that, I intend to quit doing it, because its too much stress compared to the fun you have.
(part of the problem also lies in the fact I cant help my friends with it, w/o hindering their chest drops, so I need to stick to my raid groups times, and treat it more like work than fun.)

I did 1st coils in 2.0, savage in 3.0, and savage in 3.4.
And regardless of how difficult they get, they all have in common a lack of "fun" and too much stress.

I dont think ill do any more savage content come 3.5+

If I sounded mocking, I apologize. That definitely wasn't my intent. But I stand by my statements besides that.

The screwing up your friends chest drops sounds really counter intuitive...
    And kinda crappy.

Chiming in as a casual: the reason I dislike extremely difficult content is that you will almost never find the coordination required to clear it in Duty Finder or with PUGs. I like a challenge, and I enjoy honing my skills, but difficult content usually means relying on the performance of other people--and in Duty Finder, that is a frightening prospect.

Last Steps of Faith is a great example. The fight is wonderfully mechanically complex, but going in with randoms is extremely daunting.

This is a system I absolutely despise for that very reason. I moved up into a more midcore focused raid group, but still wanted to help my friends get their clears. Of course, that means I screw them out of loot. It's a silly system that only encourages people to play with one group. I really hope they abandon it come 4.0.

I always improve when the content requires it, I don't really play ffxiv to roll my face on my keyboard.

This sums up my opinion on the subject. While i understant the MSQ needs to be more or less easy to be done in fast and get in the new areas, we should be able some kind of mid-term challengue between the average dificulty of the duties and Extreme. One example i like to give to my friends about the matter it's Vishap. While i understand the nerf, having an expansion gated after the trial, i quite enjoyed it while it lasted. It required a simple combination of talking with your teammates and cooperation, nothing else.

I am a casual, i play what i can a bit a week because of my situation right now and i enjoy a relaxed gameplay like any other (Also due to the lack of time i cant do Extreme, nor that i have a static to stick with). But if the game demands me to improve, i will gadly do it (and help others if i have the opportunity to do so). I am not paying AND playing a game to be carried over a field of flowers like a little kid.

    This.

We need more content like this one, out of the MSQ so it doesnt hinder the advance of the story.

With threads like these you'll always get a select few who will say "I'll leave if I have to actually try", following it up with the tried and tested "I already work hard, I want FFXIV to be easy" and, of course, everyone is entitled to their opinions.

The issue with this game is that the developers will always cater to the lowest common denominator, and if even 1% of the playerbase wants to roll their face on their keyboard and still win, they'll lower the difficulty over and over until this is possible. There's a difference between making MSQ/Expert dungeons require A3S levels of competence and just requiring you to pay attention but it seems that even the latter is too much, based on the current Expert dungeons.

When Mhach came out, even after the basic mechanics had been worked out, there was still week after week of failure until those who actually put some effort into improving had improved their gear enough to carry those who didn't want to put any effort in. I only hope that the final 24-man Raid in 3.5 doesn't get turned into a yawn-fest considering how many people complained about Mhach.

The community is beyond the point of adding harder content that required them to get better. If we had that from the start, and we kinda did, but the difficulty continued to progress at a steady pace, everybody would be much better off and the people that say they do it for relaxing wouldn't even notice the increase in difficulty cause it happened so naturally. But since everything now is faceroll easy or savage, anything slightly more difficult would be met with too much resistance.
