The more content you enjoy, the more the game offers to you and the less likely you are to get burned out or bored. You can achieve the same effect by playing multiple games at the same time - by spreading yourself thinner, you not only spend less time in any given game (extending content lifespan), but also have a higher diversity, so the gameplay itself becomes less repetitive.

That said, "rushing" over parts you don't enjoy to get to the ones you do does no harm, quite the opposite - rushing over parts you do enjoy out of social pressure however is bad.
I'm quoting this post because she sums up the situation very well, covers pretty much everything I was going to say, but I did want to add a small bit to it.

When I say I have an issue with how "repetitive" things are, I'm referring to a specific thing, namely getting the current tomestone gear. At the end of the day an RPG is about advancing your character and making it stronger in some way, I think we can all more or less agree on that. That being said, the easiest way to do that is run Alexander 12 once a week and do one Ex roulette a day. I don't have an issue with THAT per se, my issue comes with the limited number of dungeons in the Ex roulette and their difficulty. I want more than two dungeons in the Ex roulette, desperately so. Running the same two dungeons over and over again isn't very fun. If there were 7-8 dungeons in the roulette that each offered a variety of items and maybe chances at things like rare minions and mounts off the final bosses? I believe that would make the Ex roulette grind a lot less repetitive.

I totally understand that , and I think this is part of the reason why i purposely hold myself back, because gear stats for instance really dont excit me a whole lot I like glamour more than I do battle stats. I fear that the love I currently have for the game will maybe go away if I bring it down to runnin the same raid , and or ex roulette over and over again. Because Id like to feel like Im playing a whole game with prob 60 or 70 different dungeons in it. But what I would hope that se could do is just to come up with a much much better reward system for vets, mentors and the likes, I really dont feel from what Ive heard that wt is all that exciting from the player base it was a nice attempt, but I think its failing. Id say if you gave new rewards for players that have been playing for a while and just called them vet rewards this would go a long way.

The reason a lot of people want to get to endgame quickly though is if you don't do content when it is current and has relevant rewards, good luck trying to get a party together to do it. And even if you do it's not even near the same experience.

How many people are still running Gordias/Midas savage? Running coil now is done primarily at 60 unsynched, that doesn't make for a very satisfying experience, and all the ARR primals (along with Bismark and Ravana) are in the same boat.

So even if you may still be able to experience a lot of the content taking your time, it's not even remotely as entertaining an experience as doing things when they are current. Running things overgeared and unsynced just isn't that fun, and that's how you end up doing all content that isn't current, if you can get in it at all.

I def ran into this problem, its just a matter of determination, Im a crafting mentor so I dont mind crafting and waiting or grinding matts, so ur right the ques are long but in some cases its no different than your average dps que , and you have to have the mindset to do it , I will run something unsnyc but just to see the story but I will go back and do it sync even if the que is long. And with the new cross server party finder coming out this will be even better than it ever was Im hoping

The problem is that if you are through with the main content of the last patch you will want to start the new content of the new patch and not wait. You can limit yourself to only one quest a day or something but it would still not be enough till the next patch is out. But thats completely normal. Thats why we have so much different content in a MMO. To have something to do when you are through with the new main content.

I also still have lots of things to do and if you just take your achievement list and try to do everything on it than you would never run out of things. Some achievements are truly long time ones. But the question is: Is this truly fun for me or not? I like a challenge but I dont like to be forced to raid on certain days a week and finding a static is just another obstacle that is too annoying for me. So I dont raid. This means one part of the game fell away. I still want to equip my crafters, get my master books, get all the big fish, finally start the sightseeing log but at the same time you have to feel that you want to do it. I want to get the books but I find the script system utterly boring so I really dont look forward doing it.

I really do think that there is a lot of content in the game, but still there is not a lot of content that I want to do all the time..or even do at all. And I think that is also the problem for a lot of people that are bored of this game. Doing something you dont really like would probably be the nail in the coffin for that person, since its still a game and should at least feel like fun. Taking breaks is okay (but only 45 days if you have a house) but sometimes this might mean that people wont come back again, which is bad for SE.

Mostly I log in daily, see how I feel that day and maybe I will finally feel like fishing or something like that. And I also have some people that I like to talk with, so I also often spend my time helping them or just chatting with them.

To answer your question: Yes rushing a game can lead to boredom, but even if you dont rush it, as soon as you finished the parts that you liked about the game you will be hit with a wall of boredom. Maybe you are lucky and the next patch is on the way or maybe you are unlucky and either play something else or do something that feels less like fun.

I am not really sure if SE can do much about it. Maybe more midcore content for us more midcore players. Maybe some more activities that are grindy but not over the top. I was really looking forward to the diadem and the palace. But both kinda disappointed me. The first because of the nature of the content and the second because of SE restrictions..

Sorry my thoughts are all over the place. X_X
