Games always have an "end", mmos just end in cliffhangers until the next patch. You can slow yourself down, but unless you intentionally stop 1 patch earlier and wait, you'll always eventually run out of fresh content. Doesnt mean you cant still have fun in the game.

But I just dont understand why such a game just literally field with content gets so much hate from its on users, Im thinking really what other games are you even comparing it to , so thats why I think its a choice of player consumption thats the issue not willing to spread things out or take your time , its well this is new so I must do it right now asap

Whenever I feel like I'm running out of things to do in FF XIV I play something else for a while ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I would say so.

I wouldn't say I rushed to the end. But I did do many different things very quickly and ended up...at the end. But the goal was not to get TO the end. Just to do things.
I level all the crafting classes and gathering classes and just 1 combat class (plus support jobs) to get to the end.

The end is very boring or very repetitive. I was disappointed. I leveled some other classes to give me something to do, but I didn't enjoy most of them.
I started big-fishing and got, I think 125 or so of them.
Now at the end, I feel there are two types of content for me.
Very easy / boring / low-reward content that takes no effort.
Challenging / boring / soon obsolete reward content. Which requires everyone to perform well. Great fun if you have a great group. A complete waste of time if you get stuck with one person who has no idea what they are doing.

I wish there was more challenging content we could do alone. Like, exploration.

Just remembering days of FFXI. I could go into a cave / dungeon ALONE (not instanced) and fight / sneak my way to the deepest parts, just to see what was there. To find some rare items or just explore.
We actually had to kill really tough enemies in deep caverns and mines to get items for crafting. This one is completely different. Getting items for crafting is not challenging at all.

I felt there was always something cool to discover. I've never felt that way in this game.
I remember trying several times just to get to Jeuno. We actually had to sneak past monsters or call for help / make a party to get things done.
Remember how hard it was to get my first airship pass. And this was more than a decade ago.
This game? I can't even remember the quest for it. That was less than a year ago.

My point is, it's too easy and fast to get to the end. Leveling just 1 character you could get there in a few days if you skip MSQ cutscenes.
In FFXI there was no way. It took forever and so much hard work.

I don't think everyone aims for the end, but we end up there before we know it because the game holds our hand and guides the entire way. It felt like walking on a paved road filled the roses and birds chirping.
And we get there, it's like "enjoy the view. You'll be here for a few months."

In FFXI, it felt like climbing over mountains, valleys, the rain, wind, and snow, while blindfolded.

I spent almost all of my time in FFXI not actually playing the game, but instead shouting in town trying (and failing) to actually progress through the plot. Despite having a fraction of the playing time, I have actually played FFXIV far, far more than I played XI. And most of what I actually played in XI was since Trusts were introduced and you can actually accomplish things solo.

At any rate, if you play through the main story just to the original ending (pre-2.1) and watch cutscenes and whatnot, this is a 60-80 hour game. That makes it one of the longer Final Fantasy games in terms of basic completion. HW offers another RPG's worth of game just by its own main story, to say nothing of the various side stories and whatnot. You can easily sink hundreds of hours into this game without ever doing an expert roulette, if you want to. Unfortunately, that doesn't feed the addiction that makes MMOs profitable, and is largely ignored by the player base. But who cares what they want, play the game, enjoy it, and if a monthly subscription is that onerous, unsubscribe between expansions and go play something else. Like FFXV.

My memberberries recall ridiculous drop rates and ridiculously powerful normal mobs in said dungeons. You couldn't get anything done on your own in FFXI, or it took a really long time to do it. How people find this fun is beyond me and I LOVE a good grind IF I can do the majority of it on my own or have friends with similar goals, which is rare.

It might be just me, but I hate the idea of using someone else's time to accomplish my goals.

Well, but that means that taking your time absolutely DOES solve the problem, because if you take long enough to finish content A so that content B releases right as you finish A, and C releases right as you finish B and so on, you never run out of stuff to do and therefore never get bored

Oh absolutely I feel it's better to take your time and not rush through content, even if only to be able to fully take in what the game's designers have created. I feel it is less appreciated from players who just rush to endgame. However, I can also understand wanting to be caught up so you can do fresh content as its released with everyone else, so there is a bit of a preference there.

My preference though is slow and steady. By time I get to 3.0 those who group with me will get a healer who has been doing it for 9 to 10 months opposed to a month or two. I'm not saying I'm better than these faster players, but I am saying I'll be a better player after this longer period of time opposed to the skill level I'd be at after only a couple months.

I also like to be self sufficient so I spend more time with my DoH and DoL than any battle class. Getting to this point takes a really long time, and if everyone had this patience, I'd be broke.

9 months in and I'm still not at HW, and I am still not in any rush to get there. I am definitely not bored with the stuff I'm doing, and plenty more content awaits me!

Not especially. Rushing through doesn't remove the content you skipped, only whatever you've lost interest in (e.g. the voice acting for cutscenes you clicked through, skimming just the gist of). Even if you focused just one job and its cross-classes, you still have all the rest to level, sights to see, etc. For those friends you outleveled, which is quite a separate issue from losing stuff to do with, you'd also be making more early on at endgame, as long as you're idea of focus isn't to abstain from all but a necessary evil level of socialization.

I just resubbed for my 5th month and still have yet to complete the MSQ. I'm perfectly content with making alts on multiple servers, chatting, and just taking a moment to explore or socialize. I'm in no rush. When I meet people who are on their 6th day and have already gotten to lv 40, they often don't know a lot about the game and just level, level, level and not internalize anything.
