In that case, why not make it where talking politics in the game bans you because I don't want to hear politics? How about we ban people that don't want newbies in their party?
Banning people over spoilers is asinine beyond belief and sounds like nothing more than someone wanting to be the thought police.
I pretty much agree with this sentiment. I got spoiled over things like GoT and I just shrug my shoulders. I see it as something I'll find out eventually and it doesn't do anything to weaken the experience. On the server, people were openly talking about what happened in a recent Walking Dead episode and I didn't get bent out of shape.Having a video game ruined isn't a traumatizing event. If it is then you need to sort your life. This is not something that should be a violation of ToS. BL the person if they are saying something you don't like whether it is related to games, religion, politics, or just a bad attitude. If it is something that's actually bad behavior which violates ToS or simply basic decency then report them if you feel it necessary.
Someone spoiling some other video game is not a reason for them to be banned (temp or perm) from this game. Get over yourselves.
Getting banned over harassment and things like that is understandable but over a spoiler? I chuckled a little.
I can attest to this, though "completely" is not necessary. My boss had yet to know about Star Wars Ep.7 spoilers... until lunch last week, when a co-worker spoiled it for him lol. So I guess it's just inevitable that sooner or later something will be spoiled, unless you basically avoid life itself to avoid spoilers.
Dumbledore dies.
That is a false equivalency. A spoiler is something that you hear that will ruin the experience of media, due to not being able to not hear it. It's not that you just don't like discussing the topic at hand.In that case, why not make it where talking politics in the game bans you because I don't want to hear politics? The point is also the intent, where the intent of someone spoiling is to simply ruin someone else's experience and/or enjoyment for their own satisfaction. It's a negative behaviour which hurts the community. Discussing politics does not have this same sort of intent.

That would be harassment, and that is a ToS violation.
Let me just be clear here:
Spoiling something is not the violation. Purposely doing something that you know will negatively impact a person, AKA personal malice, while gaining sadistic pleasure is the violation.
EDIT: RIP daily post limit. Time to go to bed. o7
While not a ban in the game, weren't there forum bans being handed out at the end of ARR for spoiler topics that weren't tagged as "spoilers" or obviously if the title had one? I recall a sticky thread by one of the CMs posted, warning us about that.
I'll peel it back a bit on my end and say:That would be harassment, and that is a ToS violation.

Agreed. But, what you're describing is trolling which is already established as a punishable offense. Simply spoiling a game by way of conversing about the topic or expressing an opinion on the topic is not and shouldn't be a violation. The OP asked if spoiling another game is against ToS. It is not and should not be. You can't just assume the intent when no context is provided.
Objectively, spoiling a game is not against ToS. In the context of trolling sure it is, but most things are when pursued with malice/ill intent toward other members of the community.
And I will reiterate that having a video game spoiled is in no way, shape, or form a traumatizing event. Categorizing it as such implies a level of naivety/world view that is so narrow that it is "mind bottling".
The context was given was shouting. If you are just randomly shouting spoilers, the intent is fairly clear. If you're in the middle of a conversation and a spoiler slips, then it's clearly not. It may vary depending on server, but regular conversations don't happen via shout that I see.Agreed. But, what you're describing is trolling which is already established as a punishable offense.
