The idea is not whether we should pay but rather the amount. The cost for R&D is something a company makes up for by producing a game that people are willing to pay premium price for. SE finds themselves in quite a paradox. The problem began when they defected many thousands still hanging in FF11, to play this game. Like myself i can't return to 11 now, I've moved on. Hence, SE gambled and lost. Since I won't return to 11, they caused their own financial demise in this instance.
The price now is the negotiating point; YP said the games at 50%, thus in beta. The cost for development will always cost funds, but to simply start charging full price for as someone put "spamming Ifrit" doesn't equate to content is spot on. Money that SE was living high on the hog from 11 caused a division in premium content versus beta development for 14 when people defected to play 14; thus disrupting their revenue stream after a dismal launch of an unfinished product.
I like where the game is going but I didn't expect the company to show a 2 year plan and then say you'll need to pay full price until that happens, it's ironic at best.
I am not opposed to paying a fee, but to make players pay for something that is still being developed is folly. I am sorry if SE had to put every resource into making FF14 playable, but whose fault is that?
Compromise better be in the cards, because not everyone is willing to pay full price for a 100 leves and Ifrit to tide us over until next year. come on SE..... I'm still undecided.
PS. Yoshi your doing a good job, this isn't your fault. It's the greed of the machine that forces you to look like the bad guy.
BTW:
Japanese video game publisher Square Enix has announced that it has brought in revenue of 34.5 billion Yen during the first fiscal quarter of this year, which ended on June 30, a figures that is about one quarter smaller than the one posted for the same period of 2010. (reason: because you defected many of us to play 14 free because you f*** up the launch and many of us wont go back 11.)
The company also reported a profit of 690 million Yen, which is the equivalent of 8.8 million dollars, a considerable drop of 62 percent when compared to the similar quarter of last year.
See? $9M profit in one quarter= your not going out of business, you just get 50 Jetskis not 500. 62% drop was their own fault, but this is a 1 quarter profit. Can I say don't be the next Netflix...again?? Tread Lightly greedy peoples...tread lightly......
