Well, guess it was okay while it lasted but will not pay for this game due to more explosive, enjoyable MMO's coming out, it's a little weird that FF14 will start charging right before Star Wars Old Republic to be released, adios FF14!!

If pigs can really fly, I wouldn't care about anything else!!!

So true. Quite a lot of FF14 players will go to SWTOR. I guess these talks will be pretty common in SWTOR:
-"Let me guess, you're from FF14, right?"
-"Yeah, how did you know?"
-"Well, the last 1000 guys came from there too".

I'm waiting for TSW!
Looking good.
not kidding they have givin their player base a choice. try another game hope its not broke. or pay for their broke game.

300 already voted yet? I smell bs going and toilet paper is much needed...
I'm sorry to say this but people are becoming mindless zombies just to support SE without looking at the facts and where this game stands. It's good, but not good enough yet. Second, if a charge monthly bill is yet to come, a reduce price would make more sense.
私の方法である…

one of the docs on the announcement stated a direct pay method would be implemented in the fall, though whether that is fall 2011 or 2012 I have no idea.

The idea is not whether we should pay but rather the amount. The cost for R&D is something a company makes up for by producing a game that people are willing to pay premium price for. SE finds themselves in quite a paradox. The problem began when they defected many thousands still hanging in FF11, to play this game. Like myself i can't return to 11 now, I've moved on. Hence, SE gambled and lost. Since I won't return to 11, they caused their own financial demise in this instance.
The price now is the negotiating point; YP said the games at 50%, thus in beta. The cost for development will always cost funds, but to simply start charging full price for as someone put "spamming Ifrit" doesn't equate to content is spot on. Money that SE was living high on the hog from 11 caused a division in premium content versus beta development for 14 when people defected to play 14; thus disrupting their revenue stream after a dismal launch of an unfinished product.
I like where the game is going but I didn't expect the company to show a 2 year plan and then say you'll need to pay full price until that happens, it's ironic at best.
I am not opposed to paying a fee, but to make players pay for something that is still being developed is folly. I am sorry if SE had to put every resource into making FF14 playable, but whose fault is that?
Compromise better be in the cards, because not everyone is willing to pay full price for a 100 leves and Ifrit to tide us over until next year. come on SE..... I'm still undecided.
PS. Yoshi your doing a good job, this isn't your fault. It's the greed of the machine that forces you to look like the bad guy.
BTW:
Japanese video game publisher Square Enix has announced that it has brought in revenue of 34.5 billion Yen during the first fiscal quarter of this year, which ended on June 30, a figures that is about one quarter smaller than the one posted for the same period of 2010. (reason: because you defected many of us to play 14 free because you f*** up the launch and many of us wont go back 11.)
The company also reported a profit of 690 million Yen, which is the equivalent of 8.8 million dollars, a considerable drop of 62 percent when compared to the similar quarter of last year.
See? $9M profit in one quarter= your not going out of business, you just get 50 Jetskis not 500. 62% drop was their own fault, but this is a 1 quarter profit. Can I say don't be the next Netflix...again?? Tread Lightly greedy peoples...tread lightly......
Aneas Corilius of Lindblum. I am at your service, kupo!
While the changes thus far are an improvement, I still find myself logging on and instantly being bored. So, no, I will not be paying. And while this thread doesn't show it, I believe that the majority of those who are still "playing" will not pay a sub at this point. The subs should have started back up after 2.0. But that would be common sense and anti-greedy.
I do look forward to 2.0, but that is a year away, and a lot of things will happen between now and then.
I expect that they will realize they've made yet another mistake after a couple months and make it free to play again. Except by then people will be playing SW:ToR and GW2, plus all the other triple A games coming out this season.

I think the only thing SE has to be careful about is the price, as many have said. I'm disheartened that so few people would be willing to pay, because in my eyes, SE has earned it. I'd gladly pay for XIV, because I can tell they know what they're doing and they sure are working hard for it!
I will mention though... I do not like the "style" of that new UI. Keep it the nice clean look we have nowThat looks like some hideous WoW thing. Make it go away.
My goal is to get my Blue Mage Thread seen by Yoshida!
Support the thread and its idea! - http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/333552-FFXIV-Blue-Mage-Could-It-Work-I-think-it-can...-and-here-s-how%21
