Having some players to pay for the game is better than nothing. And since they going to re-release the game and everything, it really doesn't matter how many play it. If the re-release is good, word gets around.

It's really not. There's going to be SO much bad blood from them starting the subscription. The fact that there HASN'T been a subscription is a huge draw to a lot of players. But once there is a sub, the game has to be of a certain standard, and it definitely isn't there yet. Right now, SE can boast that they at least have a decent number of active players.
Once the sub starts, I am willing to bet they will lose half or more of them. That's going to sabotage their re-launch, because no one wants to buy a game and sub to it when it's actually beyond dead.
It's flat out the WRONG decision to ask for a subscription when the game still is in a state that any sane developer should be ashamed about releasing. There are fundamental problems with so many things. Trying to justify a subscription before very very basic things are fixed, that is going to burn people just as much or more than the way people felt when they bought the game.
Compared to initial release and now, I'm more willing to pay now than I would have a year ago. Besides there is going to be ANOTHER trial when 2.0 goes live so players will most likely try it whether they play until the re-release or not. It's really not.
