To be honest, I mostly played the game to receive a close look at the development process. As a budding game developer myself, it was quite the interesting experience. Worth paying for? Absolutely not.

Is it possible, in your mind, that people who defend SE do so because they actually AGREE with the decisions that are being made, or that they like the product?

As I said in another thread, I've been playing for 4 months and the game has been awesome fun that entire time, and has done nothing but improve. What's there to complain about? That people in some other country aren't upgrading my free shit fast enough? C'mon.

Even when things aren't perfect - which of course they are not - there's a world of difference between pointing out problems, and constant complaining, QQ'ing, talking about how much the game 'sucks' now (even though these same people have 6 r50 jobs and have obviously played for hundreds of hours), or talking about how dumb SE is or how bad the developers are. There's an undercurrent of juvenile rudeness that runs through about 10% of the population on these boards - and it deserves to be pointed out that most of these folks are ungrateful bastards who don't realize the quality of the game that they purport to disdain so heavily, yet play so much.

It's really not. There's going to be SO much bad blood from them starting the subscription. The fact that there HASN'T been a subscription is a huge draw to a lot of players. But once there is a sub, the game has to be of a certain standard, and it definitely isn't there yet. Right now, SE can boast that they at least have a decent number of active players.

Once the sub starts, I am willing to bet they will lose half or more of them. That's going to sabotage their re-launch, because no one wants to buy a game and sub to it when it's actually beyond dead.

It's flat out the WRONG decision to ask for a subscription when the game still is in a state that any sane developer should be ashamed about releasing. There are fundamental problems with so many things. Trying to justify a subscription before very very basic things are fixed, that is going to burn people just as much or more than the way people felt when they bought the game.

The end of this year has been famous for the amount of great games coming out. Starting subscription fees right in the middle of that is going to drive players who might have stayed because the game was free toward other games, and they may be lost for good. It's just a bad idea.
I will be paying also but I must say its an even worse decision to allow ppl to keep playing for free getting to cap getting bored and bitching that there isnt enough content. People here complain like they paid day one for a year. Almost like someone bitching at a soup kitchen that the food isnt to their liking. Pay first then you are a customer and complaints carry more weight. I really think its not that they are charging that has ppl crying its not even when.. some ppl just want stuff for free plain and simple.

I liked after the OP second sentence

I never thought about it that way and now a neutral point is exciting to me.

    Thanks

Compared to initial release and now, I'm more willing to pay now than I would have a year ago. Besides there is going to be ANOTHER trial when 2.0 goes live so players will most likely try it whether they play until the re-release or not.

Well, you certainly make a LOT of negative posts; I know b/c I've read 'em.

To the point where you even have to write a little line in your sig to prove that you actually like the game! And then a little note asking why nobody ever pays attention to you writing that. Maybe people don't notice because your negative posts come off, yeah. Really negative.

In a post earlier today, you wrote:

You see it as perfect, others dont, I can find lots of games for free that are better
Lots of free games that are better? Name one.

No, I"m talking about the people that have this weird, misplaced sense of brand loyalty, the kind of people that think fatigue was a good idea and whenever you try and voice dissent about anything they yell, "SHUT UP! EVERYTHING IS FINE! S-E CAN DO NO WRONG!" And then they call people trolls because they are "saying mean things" about their favorite video game they feel they have to defend S-E for some reason, as if they're a nerdy fourth-grader getting picked on by a bully. These are the people drowning out constructive criticism, not the trolls.

Also, if only 10% of the forum is juvenile or negative, I would say that's pretty good. Most of the internet isn't so lucky to boast numbers that low.

Anyways, I've enjoyed the time I've put into the game, and I was fully ready to pay for the game when it shipped, (I built this machine to play it,) but I still don't think it's ready for a subscription fee, and I don't think subs are going to change the forums much. As has already been pointed out, some of the most vocal critics are the ones that play the most.

Actually, when speaking in terms of playerbase and Subscriptions. I think SE got most of the idea out of us and have set up a plan from all of our feedback throughout the whole year. Now that they have an idea of what the playerbase has strived for, they are ready to take the next step forward. They don't need a big playerbase right now, as they've gotten all the plans set up. Hence the new info we got. Given that, they are surveying just how many people are willing to play the game as it is currently, and with paying, you earn your rights to:

    a) Play the game.
    b) Provide feedback.
    c) Experience one-time-only events.

People will be willing to pay for any one of these options. I am sure SE doesn't actually NEED the funding for v2.0. It is my belief that it is more of a survey just to see how much this game will be making at the bare minimum. Once 2.0 is released, that is a whole different story.
