Because with healers being as powerful as they are, there are only two kinds of mechanics - those that kill you and those you can forget about.
How about penalties that would make people groan in dissatisfaction, like undispellable heavy and damage-down debuffs that would severely prolong the fight?

This would be acceptable. Mistakes should be punishing but that doesn't mean they should instantly kill you or wipe your party.

Doesn't really help matters though does it?

Yoshi said recently he's unhappy with the huge skill gap between players. I think the level of difficulty in 99% of the games content is a huge part of that problem.

There is absolutely no motivation at all for players to improve when everything is so ridiculously easy to begin with.

It's the same with raiding there is absolutely no motivation to do savage when you'll get a better rewards with none of the effort in next to no time at all

if it was tougher, ppl would complain until it's nerfed, so there's no fixing the situation.
but it's what happens when you're catering to new player, and make it as easy as possible to catch up to content they can't handle anyway.

If a person is not intending to do Savage, then they shouldn't need to have 100% uptime on DoTs, buffs, debuffs, etc. You don't hire an engineering specialist to fix your car, you also don't hire a catering service for a midnight snack. People will meet the experience level of the content, gradually, as they would. I didn't go from a Level 50 BLM that kept dying to Titan EX's plumes to a BLM that's managed to beat T13 overnight, it takes time, and expecting people to "git gud", so-to-speak, from just randomly implementing unforgiving mechanics in what is supposed to be content 100% of the endgame population can do is certainly not the right way to go about it.

It's a non-issue, because you are doing content that has to be of a certain degree of difficulty. What might be difficult for you is easy for someone else, what might be easy for you is difficult for someone else, etc.

The last few patches were a major disappointment over the new dungeons in Expert Roulette. Not only they reduced their number but also the quality and their size. They are easy to the point of silliness. They feel like a rushed out work of the last minute.

This isn't really a good solution, though, because savage raiding is a very different type of content from dungeons--not just in terms of difficulty, but also number of players (8 vs. 4) and general feel (one-and-done arena boss fights vs. running through a larger environment). I think introducing some number of more difficult dungeons, in addition to the simple tome-farming ones we have right now, would fill a niche in the game that has really only been addressed by PotD floors 101+ (arguably, 151+) thus far.

While I do enjoy PotD, I'd love to see what the dungeon developers could do if they were given the goal of making a dungeon with a larger, more complex layout and challenging encounter design for both trash groups and bosses. It would probably need to be "extra" content rather than part of roulettes, in order to address the argument that dungeons have to be easy because they're intended to be farmed for tomes; if weekly loot lockouts like those for raid loot were placed on it, though, it could be a good change of pace for those who want something harder than EX roulettes but prefer light party content or have trouble with the time/schedule commitment required for savage raiding.

Maybe they should add a Savage Dungeon option where fights would be as hard as they should be. Think of a Mythic Dungeon setting from WoW (Worst game ever, yadda yadda, insert your joke here) where you can only go via premade and you get stuff you can trade in for additional loot (like 270 tome loot, but totally random, or something that makes it worth redoing it)

As of now I totally agree though: they got nothing "expert" going on and they are really boring, too boring. And no I won't do Savage Raids because my dungeons are boring, when other mmorpgs usually have more interesting and challenging dungeons going at the moment.
