It was probably more likely that this was a reference to Scarlet Witch (ie, Red Mage) since that was the shirt he was wearing at Fanfest.

Yeah, that makes sense, but seems kinda random that he brings it up after the fact. I guess it just seemed obvious to me, and why bother adding a 2nd hint to an obvious first one? :P You're probably right though.
